Electrical Upgrade
So as I understand this, 2 of the Leece Neville 12V alts replaced the 24V units and the DUVAC. All of the factory wiring not used was closed up with shrinkwrap and secured out of the way. Since these are self excitiing and had the isolated ground, they were wired directly...
Mark, Roy piggybacked a bit on your thread here. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?101135-M1010-DUVAC-Removal-Plan-quot-B-quot
I will get some pics of his work this afternoon!
It just gets better. Tightened up PS and A/C belts and did a few other things. Plugged in the A/C compressor and climbed in the back and lit up the A/C. I just came in from a most pleasant nap sleeping in the A/C. It's near 80 today and much colder than that in the back of the 1010. Oh...
Well, after a deal that has been in the works for the better part of a year, my new M1010 is home and what a peach she is. I worked out a deal with ChevyC60 to trade my M108 crane for this ambulance. Roy has been working on it for weeks to get it ready to make the trip from North to South...
M886 ambulaces are particularly cool. Your looks very workable. I especially like the tall cab and passthrough door. Later today when I can get pics I will introduce the newest member of my family which has a very short pass through door.
Let me take this for a ride. As equipped, your M880 came from the factory without a blackout light system. DOD saw the need to retrofit some of them and TACOM came up with a kit. The kit consisted of that 3 lever light switch you have, a harness, 1 blackout drive light that should be somewhere...
Great haul. Certainly one of the most useful trailers in the DOD invetory. Perhaps one of those small pickup cranes in the corner would help with the heavier stuff. I suffer much from back damage, not fun!
My guess is that the bad tire was swapped onto your trailer by some enterprising young jarhead looking to better his assigned HMMWV. Wonder if their T/O&E limited tire requisitions.
I can see how someone would have related the resistor with the slave. Here's what you have. I can't explain how it works as I'm electrically ignorant. The resistor on the firewall steps 24V down to 12V to operate the glow plugs. If 1 glow plug fails, it increases the juice to the other...
I have a few questions here. Mark, on yours the lower alt is installed as factory. The upper is a single wire unit. Using the single wire unit makes that a completely stand alone unit, is that correct? Is the idiot light completely out of the equasion now? Roy, on yours with 2 stand alone...
I like the swing away spare tire carrier idea. I have 2 thoughts on lifting the tire. A plate with a receiver similar to a reese hitch mounted on the top of the SECM box. Use a small boat winch to lift tire into place. Second is to also make the tire rack fold parallel to the ground and add a...
Axle swap is viable. The 14 bolt is no lightweight so you won't pare off that much weight. Will the CUCV keep its stock suspension? Shoot for a matching bolt pattern with the truck.
