IMHO. If it were mine I would R & R the starter and have it rebuilt. I have starters and alternators rebuilt anytime I suspect an issue. I do it on most vehicles as a standard maintenance item right after I buy a used vehicle. I just picked up a spare starter and alternator for my Cadillac and...
Towards the end of the day we went on tight trails that were to tight for anything but CUCV's It was fun and I am still impressed with the capability of the pure stock M1009. No lift, Stock 31 10.50 tires and with the stock 3:08 gears. But the best dressed for the occasion was Beetle. Mr Beetle...
Fun Fun. Never got stuck. No need for a jack. Just drive the left side down in a ditch. Magically the right wheel went up and we were able to change the flat with 2 people standing on the left front bumper corner. That tire/wheel was in my barn for 20 years. it is an original tire from an M1009...

Some of the stills that I took while out wheeling yesterday. I did a complete damage inspection on Terminus M1009. No fluid leaks (0). The rear drive shaft has both U joints bad, the back window as mentioned (gone), the steering stabilizer smashed and...
We have a great day at Rausch Creek. We had 8 vehicles. ALL military vehicles. The weather was great. Very light sporadic rain. Never more then 5 minutes at a time. Everyone enjoyed the day. Not much in the way of carnage. Terminus M1009 suffered the wrath of trail riding. We were on a few RED...
I use the 4 ply springs it makes the truck ride nicer and sit level. DAYCO 22-402 was the front spring set part
Cost for replacing front leaf springs and shocks? Put that in the search up top.

Cooler with more clouds than sun. (Saturday April 22, 2017 weather) It looks like tomorrow will be a good day for the off roading. The rain is falling now and will be brewing up a bit of mud. This is all good news. The burn ban is a bummer but one we can...
NEWS FLASH: A burn ban is in effect for the entire Rausch Creek area. I have a load of cut wood on my trailer. I will be donating it to a 91 year old WWII veteran. No worries. I will NOT be bringing any WOOD and advise against anyone else doing so. The BURN BAN goes into effect at mid-night...
I never done the grounding. I sent it to a shop and had it done. So I would not be the one to give you the correct answer. I know when I have it done the automotive alternators it cost me about $40. Wish I could be more helpful.
OK. Let me correct my post. If you have 2 spare alternators and you want to be prepared at all times. Make sure you have 2 that have isolated grounds. That way they will be able to be used in any position/side 1 or 2 / R/L. I knew what I meant but did not write what I was thinking. Make any...
The alternators both need to be isolated ground. The alternators on a stock 24 volt CUCV are the same on either side. No difference. So you will need 2 isolated ground alternators. Most rebuilders can handle this set up for a few dollars I would think. Report back. Welcome to the hobby. Don't do...
This is NOT the official spring 2017 event. This is for those that just want to go out wheeling. It may be a few people that post here but it is NOT the official event for spring 2017. That event has yet to be announced. Anyone that wants to wheel is welcome. Saturday April 22, 2017. No one is...
Yes it is worth the effort to remove the entire wiper transmission from the cowl. It is also worth the time to press grease and motor oil into all the moving parts of that wiper transmission. If you spray WD40 or any other aerosol lube. You are wasting time and only doing a temporary fix. if you...
New front springs were $420. Shackles were $60. and all the new bolts, nuts and washers. $0. Total of parts was $520. I would put them on all day for $200. a set. At $800. I would do an alignment also. So that price is NOT bad. That is if they are replacing everything. Good Luck. I use the 4 ply...

Firewood trailer all loaded up an ready to go. I hope I brought enough. I still have room on the roof rack. I was negligent and did not pick up my cribbing blocks for 2 weeks. I loaded it and drove down the railroad tracks and nothing fell off. Loaded and...
30 MM. I hope that helps. And the rear drive shaft should not slide in the straps at the yoke. Worst case scenario. You may need a new yoke and new straps. Good Luck. I bought a few yokes from Yukon Gear.
Yes I heard of that hack job. Where you cut the wiring up and put this big ugly solenoid under the dash. Now whats your point? I have over 30 years behind the wheel of many CUCV's and never needed it yet. Like I said before. The problem is caused by hard starting low amperage. If you have a fear...
