They sure are.... specs do vary a lot. But... they all say "cubage", not "curbage"....! :-P
The only non-winch truck I have is a M35 WO/WN, '60 Curtiss-Wright Corp. = 1164 CU. FT.

1) OK, for the seal's orientation.
2) Yes, for using RTV sealant where the retainer is seated. (From factory it comes with some kind of shellack compound, there.)
3) Also YES, for putting some RTV between knuckle/ lower sleeve/ cover plate and also around threads of the 4 bolts (which go all the...
See diagram, below... it shows where goes which bearing, for the input shaft.
All 6 are deep groove ball bearings, with their specific (civilian) part numbers listed.
What I meant to say is that the bearings #5 (not the gears) are the ones which usually fail first.
If the T-case wasn't...
Usually what goes first is one of the smaller (BL210Z) bearings, inside the gears. For peace of mind I would replace all 6 bearings on the input shaft, besides the seal (Victor # 47431 or equiv.)
Also, while its open inspect the races of the tapered bearings for intermediate- and output-shafts...
You will have a clue... after reading this
BTW, there's a sticky titled "Can't post to the classifieds?" It's very visible right on top of the "vehicles for sale" section in the classifieds forum...

True.... but Deuces aren't really "limited", or good or bad in mud.... drivers are!:-)
And if we were talking about deep mud it depends mainly on type and size of tires; if you had chains; any lockers or not; what engine; of course, weight distribution - as Kenny said; and, and.... HOW far...
Sounds to me like you're experiencing what's called "Wheel Shimmy" or "Death Wobble".
Many things can cause this - tires not round; un-balanced; loose steering components, etc..
Good reading here, in this thread...

FWIW: spring free length is 1.85, O.D. = 0.48, wire diam = 0.063"
Both, the tip of the lock-bolt AND the holes - at least for the NO-through-hole style drum - are tapered to 60º and the bolt only engages about 3/16” in depth. So even for NEW parts there is at least a slight chance for the bolt...
It's only about 1mm on the keyway, to move 8mm up!
See drawing...
If you had access to a torch and could heat that shaft to red and twist just a bit; it is mild steel only and will go like butter! I have done it, no problem! (Of course checked for straightness and eventually correct under the...
Depending on seal type and construction the seal lip could be riding as far as 17mm away from the shaft's collar; about one third in lenght of total ground area.
Edit: Also, that wear mark could have been caused at an earlier time, from an encased seal, plus sufficient vertical movement of the...
:ditto:
Thread: Yes, 1"-20 tpi.
Uncommon....? depends where you look: every M35 has 11 of those nuts... (or 12.... if it was a M48; M49; M50; M108; M185; V18A; etc.)..........
