You get about 7 mph more when the speedo says50 mph. I had one deuce that had less torque because of the larger tires, but I have one now where you call tell any difference. Maybe, this one runs better...I don't know.
I will also add that the fuel tank selector lever can be a bit finnicky. Make sure you know the truck before you start switching the level back and forth. You might start sucking air and then you are done until you replace the level. This is common if a truck has been sitting for a long...
Adam, you've probably already thought of this, but if not, here goes...why not put an overdrive kit on the truck? John Winslow has one on an M1028 and, man, does it make a difference. We were cruising along at 75-80 mph at the same RPM that would normally get you about 50 mph. The kit is not...
Beautiful Unimog, Mike! I really want a 1300! I just haven't gotten up the courage (and the funds) to spend what it takes to get one. I've heard they go for $25K and up.
For anyone interested, just search on GOOGLE VIDEO or YOUTUBE on "Panther" or "Tiger tank" or "King Tiger tank." There are videos of real tanks that have been restored. I would hate to even think about what those types of vehicles are worth. Over a million bucks I'd guess...
Agreed, Bjorn...that is the beauty of the remote control for the HMMWV winch...it allows you to stand about 10 feet further to the side. I am not sure if this takes you out of harms way if the wire rope snaps, but it is better than standing directly next to the winch.
Mike, I was thinking the same thing. However, if that is the case, why don't all of the truck listings have this warning? I've seen some deuces with the warning and some without...even at the same site.
That is the way it is set up. Unfortunately, I have found that MD does not care if taxes were paid previously as they insist on collecting taxes when they title the vehicle...irrespective of whether or not taxes may have been incorrectly paid previously.
NCCUCV, I am not sure what advice I can give. It sounds like you are not going to keep your truck stock. If that is true, then owning an M1010 that was converted into a pickup would be no big deal. At that point, the only two factors that would concern me would be running condition and price...
I wonder where you saw a CUCV pickup bringing $1000 that was worth anything. I follow GL almost religiously and I have not seen any trucks worth a damn coming out for $1K. I say go for the truck you found...unless you want the "excitement" of the unknown. There is something to be said for the...
If anyone is interested, I have a brand new 24V electric HMMWV winch with remote control for sale...$800. I have more in it. I believe the winch is rated at 9,000 pounds. The remote control feature is very nice as it lets you stand some what out of harms way.
Maroman: Thanks for the explanation. I did not know there was a way to determine if your truck had the C or D head gaskets. I will be checking this evening. Thanks for the info!
I'll second what David (ARMYMAN30YEARSPLUS) says. My brother was stationed at Ft. Richardson, AK in the early 90s and he told me they used tire chains on their deuces and 5 tons all the time, but they did not get really good traction (at least in the deep snow they had) unless they had a load...
I will add that I've had two C motors with blown head gaskets. I know they redesigned the head gasket, among other things, on the D motor. I'd suggest going with a D motor with the C turbo since I, too, like the whistle. It is definitely possible that a C motor has already been upgraded by...
