I've got the sister truck to Ron's singled out winch truck. Mine has the the same bumper #s and is also singled out. Mine originally had the arctic heater in the cargo bed and the cab...but they removed both. Fortunately, RAM had one so I'll replace the cab heater. My truck runs like a raped...
I've got a GO NAVY sticker on the passenger side windshield (top right corner). It was there when I got the truck from the govt...US Navy Seabeas truck.
FLEA: Just be happy that these are open-bid sales. If they were closed, you'd have no idea how high to go. You now know what they are bidding...if you want the truck, go get it!
RKLEIM, $13K is high, but exactly what are you getting for that price? Is it a rebuilt truck? If so, that is not a bad price. With that said, you should be able to find a good runner from a private party for about $4-6K depending upon a lot factors (hard top vs. soft top, winch, heater, air...
I am not sure exactly what David meant about "average." Perhaps, he can chime in to clarify. I take it to mean just that...that a deuce performs about "average" off-road in comparison to all other off-road vehicles. If you single a deuce out and add chains, like you have done, the off-road...
A lowly deuce would do terribly in mud like that. I recall David Doyle once saying that a deuce is only average off-road. Where a deuce really excels is in carrying heavy loads across rough ground. Try that in any civilian monster truck and see what happens to the vehicle after prolonged...
It seems to me that the USAF was big on mounting pintle hitches to the front bumper. I had a former USAF M932 with this same set up. I am also attaching a pic of another truck that did not belong to me.
I spent a few weeks in Russia recently and have actually seen their vehicles up close. I will second that their cars are terrible...just plain crappy. With that said, I will also second that their trucks are not crappy and are, in fact, very durable. Their trucks are built with simplicity in...
I think I agree with CUCVFAN. While ELWENIL makes a good point about big chunks of income coming from scrap dealers, I think, if you add up all of the sales to private collectors, that amount will out-weigh the other. For every bidder 8500 there is, there are thousands of collectors buying one...
Bjorn, congratulations. The truck looks great. Have you ever contacted Tom Bauer about the truck. He used to own an M757 tractor and he might have some misc. parts lying around. I hope you bring it to the VA off-roading trip next spring. I probably will bring my HEMTT, although I plan to...
Welcome aboard and congratulations on your first military vehicle! I am sure you'll be after another before long. In terms of how it should look, I recommend checking out David Doyle's book the Standard Catalog of US Military Vehicle (I believe that is the correct title...I don't have it in...
James, the HET that I saw looked identical (at least to me) to the current issue HETs shown above. I am sure there are some differences, but I could not see any that stood out. I wish I had saved some pics of it...I believe it was tan. It definitely was not the truck listed in the link that...
I respect others that wish to modify their trucks for better performance...but I am a purist. I would much rather have a truck with the stock rubber on it. I am not passing judgement on others who wish to modify their trucks...it is their choice...and I admit, in many cases, it makes sense.
