The story I heard was that there was a big push in the early 60s to go to a motor that could burn "multiple" fuels. Perhaps, to echo CITIZENSOLDIER's comment, Mack refused to redesign their motor to be a mult-fuel. I will also add that I've spoken to several NG guys and no one had anything...
The reason they are a demil item is because parts from them could be used to support an armored vehicle...or so I was told. In other words, the engine, tracks, drive sprockets, etc. are the same on the M113s.
I've owned one M548A1 and one M1015A1...both really are the same vehicle, although...
It all depends upon the period you are trying to represent. If you want to represent current vehicles, you can do no better than 686A tan CARC. Not everyone likes the tan trucks, but your truck will be current looking and it will stand out from the huge number of camo deuces and 5 tons at...
I've done the same thing. By the time you put all that time and effort into it (not to mention the money for the wood and hardware), you'd be much better off buying a nice set from someone. I've paid around $75 per side for fiberglass troop seats...
Good luck!
Jason, I believe the straps on your cargo cover are the rubberized kind. Those, I believe, are a GMA patent...at least I've never seen them any other cargo covers except for GMA covers. I believe their website says something about this, too. If the cover was made by GMA, it will be imprinted...
Well, I might be wrong...that sure as h*** looks like a GMA cover on the M36A2 pictured. After my experience with them, I would have sworn there was no way they carried any speciality truck covers...especially after they told me as much...but they must make them, at least on occasion.
It may be true that they make other covers, but I will predict that they do not have a cover for the M36A2. I called them for a dump cover and they sent me to a competitor! I am not saying it is not worth a try...only they will not be able to help. As you said, let's wait and see..
PA.RICH: Good luck finding dump parts...there are very few residues around that are worth anything...and the parts are worth good money when you can find them (I know...I pieced together all of the dump control linkages for my old M817). I offered you a very good used dump bed (with subframe...
Bjorn,
I am not sure the answers to your questions, but I believe he did the installation correctly so I would assume he did. I know that truck does not smoke much, which would be a sign that the fuel was turned up.
Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures of the motor. Maybe, Kenny has them. I vaguely remember taking pictures for Kenny, but I might be mistaken since I normally keep all the pictures I take and I don't have them in my file.
James, it is a 3/4" robo-impact... It seems to working properly because it does remove nuts that are not as tight...it just does not seem to work well.
Here is a picture of Kenny's tractor from back when I owned it. It actually shows the truck as a non-turbo...before John Winslow did the turbo coversion for me. I honestly hated to see that truck go...but I knew it was going to a good home!
Bjorn, I agree with you 100% on the color choices. That is the drawback with Gillespie. When I got into this hobby, they did not even carry the correct colors for the 3-color camo scheme! They don't have even have a color that comes close to 686A tan CARC. They suggest that you use sand, but...
Hey Blake: Brake fluid will restore a plate that is seriously sun-faded? Very cool if this works... :D I'll have to try it out on all of the plates I've taken off and replaced over the years. I did not think anything would bring them back.
