dtdoyle01, sharecropper, and I need help in the ¨Members Rides¨ section with votes for May MV of the month. A CUCV has not won yet and although I'm partial to my truck, please vote with your heart as they are all nice examples. I've read through sharecropper's build thread and he has done some...
I'd be surprised if a CUCV won but I won't count him out. He has quite a history, he was originally a Fire Truck stored in a cave in Norway as part of the Marine Corps Pre-Positioning Program. He came back to the USA and was sold to us while we were looking for an M1009, he almost got taken...
DS, I said they were going to a bombing range in Nevada. They made the ride and if you want to talk ¨Waste, Fraud, and Abuse¨, they were Condition Code ¨A¨ depot overhauled Front Power Units. One more reason we are broke. I don't think Oshkosh is buying them back as they had right to first...
It's all in the programming. It has to be a package deal though. I've tried to swap a M939A2 CTIS Controller into an FMTV and got the flashing lights. I'm a mechanic in the National Guard part time. When the full time guy called Eaton to inquire, he said that they were identical boxes but...
The picture Derrick posted looks pretty much the same as the front of a new one, his picture is of the back end though. Anyhow, you have to reach behind the front bumper to get the front pins in and the head of the 1 1/2¨ pin will not clear the supports to the side of the tow connection. The...
I agree with Derrick. I tow these trucks pretty regularly whenever we go to the field and 1¨ pins are what's needed on the older ones. Some of the newer ones are configured a little differently, let me see if I can find a picture of the last one I had hooked. The new one's are horrible...
A few more to choose from but doubtful it can compete with a Tank!!! Two of these were taken in October at Stella's Roadhouse where we ate during the Hardball Convoy this past year at the GA Rally to prove it's still a good looking truck after a few years of ownership.
My youngest Loves It and I'm Proud to say he named it Sarge!!! He named it Sarge because that's the Jeeps name in the Car's series of films. If you read "NOS USMC" in the CUCV Forum, you'll learn that we almost lost Sarge due some issues. Briggs was the trucks saving grace as he has been...
Let's go Sarge!! Original unmolested Marine Corps M1028 still under 7,000 original miles. Other than the Doghead Glowplug Bypass, still sitting on the original Firestone tires and the spare has never touched the ground. I'm going to cheat with my other photo upload!!!
Mr. Andy,
I'm glad that you acknowledged Ron in your post. Somehow ya'll had some indifference leading up to the event and you posted earlier that he was uninvited. That played into some of why I was not there on Saturday because it's suppose to be a fun event with everyone getting along...
I just want to add that I would not use a P-19 Crash Truck to move a 5 ton with locked up brakes. The pintle is not very strong on these. We used to move them by hooking a scoop loader with a special attachment with a lunette ring to lift the back end of a P-19 to move it around. We've broken...
I got my starter rebuilt for about $40 bucks at a local starter / generator shop. I had busted the solenoid away from the nose cone somehow. I don't think my response will help the OP but to anybody else who has a starter problem on a CUCV, please try to get the original repaired by a...
Had a great time at the fish fry last night but due to some unforeseen last minute issues, I had to leave this morning. I'm sure I missed a great time and I hope everyone had a great time. I can't wait to see some more pictures as I forgot to bring a camera with me. My wife would like to add...
I'm cheating by taking my Trans Am for this trip but I should be there by 4 or 5 in the afternoon ready to work. Can't wait to see everyone. Perfect get together to shorten the span of the GA Rally get together. Does anyone know if anybody from Louisiana or anyone close to TimNTrucks is...
They are nice trucks. Look at the basics that you would check on any truck. Tires, fluids, brakes, blowby, etc. Look out for folks that point to a little triangle tag on the driver's door frame for a MWO or ¨Modification Work Order¨ for seatbelts and they try to refer to it as a rebuild tag...
If you read what was stamped into the dipstick, it says to wait about 2 minutes after shutdown to check the oil level. I agree that you should smell it to make sure you don't smell any diesel but if left sitting over a period of an hour or so, they read high on the dipstick. Also, mine will...
Do a search for ¨FDC Bypass¨ and see if this has been done to your injection pump. If not, try that and change oil, repeat trip and check oil. If it rises again, do a search for Hydraulic Head and you should see some threads about changing the O-rings that seal the Hydraulic Head to the...
The MTVR's never released the maintenance manuals in TM form that I'm aware of. They used a computer based program called ¨IETM¨ and I don't know if its for public release. I'll see if I can get some basics on the transfer at work tomorrow.
I gave 3dAngus a seized long style airpack last year at the GA Rally. He said he was going to try and rebuild it but I don't know if he ever did. He's a great guy to work with though and I'd ask him if he still has it.
