Actually "lockout" hubs will prevent wear on the front differential as the wheels are constantly turning the axle shafts thus the differential gears. Also it would help with steering as the axles turning creates a "drag" or "shimmy" on the steering at high speeds. Just ask anyone who has a 4X4...
Stainless steel is great, but you can buy "cuprinal" lines for half the price and they are guaranteed to never rust also. I went with the cuprinal lines myself years ago.
Well I did think before posting. I blew out that seal when I first did the conversion. Without the "relief" the seal blew out like a cork in a bottle of seltzer when I was pumping in the grease.
So why in the world would you say to me "think before posting" ? You got something to say to me ? Or...
If this is happening every time the temperature falls below freezing then it is a water problem. Have you totally bled out the entire system ? You need to totally replace all the brake fluid. Does your system still use DOT 5 (silicone) brake fluid, or has it been converted to DOT 3 brake fluid ...
That vertical housing holds a big spring. I totally agree with you on the 3306 and 3406 engines. I would also add the 3408 in there also. Those engines where what CAT used to be all about. Tough and reliable, no nonsense engines. I think it was the whole "ACERT" emissions crap that destroyed...
No. The seal would get blown out due to the pressure of the grease. You need a way for the grease to escape to prevent that. The hole also needs to be closed during use or crap will get in there. That's why I went with a pressure relief valve. No worries about removing the plug and then...
Why do you want to replace the transmission filter ? They are a fine metal mesh and don't go bad unless the screen gets torn.
So if your oil looks good in the transmission, and it shifts fine don't mess with it.
So your a "CAT" mechanic. That's good to have around here. What do you think of the...
The last post here was mine showing the relief vent I installed. I bought them from www.oringsandmore.com . They are called "1/4-1 PSI Top Vent Relief" plugs.
Yes. Except the relief valve is a high pressure grease relief valve. I cannot remember where I bought them, but if you look-up "high pressure grease relief valve" you should find them. They cost about $5.00 each.
It's amazing how easy it can be to get a totally non-functioning vehicle on the road again with just some TLC and grease !
Yes, the 3/8" drive tools can only handle so much on our Deuces. A good 1/2" drive set would make a great Christmas present !
You can have any "Parker" hose shop make up some nice "PTFE" 919 series stainless steel hoses for under $30.00 . I had four sets made up for me for spares. As "you never know" !!!
This is how I did it about 4 years ago now.
How did you adapt the gen-head to the Yanmar engine ? Was there a "kit" ?
Give us some part numbers ! I have another MEP-501 I need to convert.
Thanks.
Just like Jbulach said, your shackles should never be forced into shape. It creates "stress fractures" in the metal which can later under stress, break. Not good.
