Where did you disconnect the starter trigger wire, at the starter or at the ignition switch? When you did this, did the instruments come on in “run” position?
Not sure about your neck of the woods Drew but here in the Houston metro area, driving around with mounted weapons results in dozens of 911 calls and a bigtime butt chewing from the popo.
Yeah that dude used to post on here but it's been a long time. I can't remember if I called him out for his practice of driving around with mounted weapons fake or not. That has always been a huge nono in this hobby. Really freaks people out.
Pic is funny as can be. In the pic, I see what looks like a rusty steel semicircle pointing up that seems to form a skid under the centerline of the shelter. I have never seen a S280 with a steel skid like that, only aluminum runners. If the rusted away steel skids are non original or...

Either. The trans/transfer assy will be on the ground, if you are rebuilding the trans, the rebuilder will appreciate if you have the adapter off already.
If you don’t live anywhere near a galvanizer, zinc rich epoxy primer works almost as well. Still have to sandblast to white metal. Don’t leave rust pits or re-rusting will occur.
The ATF or “power steering fluid” lubes everything inside the steering gear. It may take several flushes to get the water out. Once you have good fluid in there and all bubbles are worked out, the pump should be quiet.
Looking at this again, there should only be 8 numerals. Hard to say, these trucks got repainted very frequently in the 1950's and it's possible you have uncovered numerals from different stencil jobs.
