1991 M998 starting issues that I just cannot figure out Please help!!!

Where did you disconnect the starter trigger wire, at the starter or at the ignition switch? When you did this, did the instruments come on in “run” position?

1991 M998 starting issues that I just cannot figure out Please help!!!

Sounds like the wires to the ignition switch are not in the right place.

Should I buy this thing?!? Lol

No. Rent a 580K for a week and spend your time digging not repairing.

    Water in the oil

Almost always rain water. Pro tip: don’t buy the units with no exhaust flapper in the pics.

    M887 truck

Pressed on the rotor. Not one of Dana Corp's better ideas but it works.

Saw a HMMWV with mounted .50 cal driving in Orange, Texas?

Not sure about your neck of the woods Drew but here in the Houston metro area, driving around with mounted weapons results in dozens of 911 calls and a bigtime butt chewing from the popo.

Saw a HMMWV with mounted .50 cal driving in Orange, Texas?

Yeah that dude used to post on here but it's been a long time. I can't remember if I called him out for his practice of driving around with mounted weapons fake or not. That has always been a huge nono in this hobby. Really freaks people out.

    s280 shelter questions

Pic is funny as can be. In the pic, I see what looks like a rusty steel semicircle pointing up that seems to form a skid under the centerline of the shelter. I have never seen a S280 with a steel skid like that, only aluminum runners. If the rusted away steel skids are non original or...

    use backhoe as a crane?

Agree with Simp, my much larger track hoe struggles to pick up a 3000 lb shelter with the stick out.

    transmission removal

Either. The trans/transfer assy will be on the ground, if you are rebuilding the trans, the rebuilder will appreciate if you have the adapter off already.

    Victory Marks or Kill Marks

This was a WWII thing for the most part, and when found on ground vehicles, was symbols painted on tank barrels.

Sounds like previous owner did zero maintenance and every mechanic to touch it since did not know what they were doing.

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

If you don’t live anywhere near a galvanizer, zinc rich epoxy primer works almost as well. Still have to sandblast to white metal. Don’t leave rust pits or re-rusting will occur.

I don't know about you guys but I am LOOKING for reasons to stop for fuel after 8 hours behind the wheel of a 915.

PS pump and steering gear box

The ATF or “power steering fluid” lubes everything inside the steering gear. It may take several flushes to get the water out. Once you have good fluid in there and all bubbles are worked out, the pump should be quiet.

    1955 m38a1

Gillespie is fine as long as you don't leave the Jeep out in the weather. Which I doubt you will after spending $10,000 on the restoration.

M38 Hood numbers. Need an experienced eye!

Looking at this again, there should only be 8 numerals. Hard to say, these trucks got repainted very frequently in the 1950's and it's possible you have uncovered numerals from different stencil jobs.
