I actually do both depending on what I'm connecting. A good solder joint I believe is better then just a crimp though. I understand the reasoning behind the military only using crimping. It has more to do with the wire hardening at the joint then any connectivity issues. If soldering was so bad...
I was just ready some old threads for grins and giggles and came across this one. The poster did not realize that the old "Dual Range Hydromatic" 4 speed transmission does not have a torque convertor but a "fluid coupling" . The Flywheel of the engine is the outside of the coupling. There is a...
If you bring the compression down that far you won't be able to burn oil anymore. Remember you need at least 16:1 to actually be a diesel engine. As far as gas goes. It would be easier to burn at that lower compression.
I knew it was a ground problem all along. Finding it was the problem ! I never thought to check the socket ground since it was so clean inside where the bulb sits.
You also cannot go by park light not working since mine always worked great. Ground faults will usually only affect the weakest or...
Some more pictures showing that "little rotten" ground wire ! I think anyone who has one of these trucks should pull their socket ground wires out and check them. Then use some dielectric grease in there to prevent any corrosion issues.
I have had an "on again-off again" problem with my turn signals for some time now.
The light will not go off and sometimes it will not work. Just last month I had the whole front clip off trying to find the problem. I even installed extra grounds all over the place with 10 gauge wires going...
That's pretty much what I did since I had an engine fire that took out the whole firewall harness. You can get the whole front harness from almost any junk yard since these trucks all use the basic harness.
All it takes is a little Love ! Make sure to say nice things to your truck and just like a good dog, it will give it's all for you ! I think I have been wrenching too long !
Well to be truthful it takes a person who is into a little "self-abuse" to want to own a military truck ! At least that's what my wife keeps saying after I spend a day getting all busted up working on the green beast.
It's kinda funny. My specialty was and has always been Transmissions and Differentials, but I have worked on more brake and suspensions then anything else . Engines and electrical come in second and third. Transmissions and differentials don't fail as often as people think.
The one we use at work is the "Vericom" VC4000 .
I realize this unit goes for $1400.00 but there are other cheaper units out there like the "Matrix" 3 Axis unit which sells for $250.00 plus shipping on eBay.
OK first question. Yes we know in a sealed system the pressure will be the same in any place along the line, but the Air-Pak is basically two systems. It gets a little confusing since it does share the same fluid source, but the master cylinder only applies the Air-Pak. The Air-Pak using air...
Also this is something everybody should do incase you have to replace your air compressor belt. Remove the outer pulley off the compressor shaft, clean and very lightly lube it. I like very little never-seize. Then when or if you have a belt fail you won't be fighting the rusty threads and the...
As far as the brake lines go, just replace them with stainless steel or that "cuprinal" that peashooter was selling. I believe he lists the place where you can buy it. Then you know your brake lines will never rust out ! Peace of mind is a good thing !
More then likely the compressor was cycling on and off due to a faulty governor or unloader valves or air leak. Each time it came on it would shudder a little due to the extra load on the engine.
All this talk about power steering cooling got me thinking ( I know that's bad ! ) since I already own another cooler why not install it for the steering ! So today I took off the grill and put on the cooler. This makes for a better shot of my transmission coolers also. I need to buy some...
