I tossed the idea around a bit but haven't done anything concrete as of yet.
I know Demoh purchased an cousin of the 803 and it has a RPM controller. Not sure where he stands on possibly reverse engineering that system.
Fine tuning that right now as I start producing them.
I can tell you now it will now be less that the "other" MEP remote start on the market!
When ready they will be listed in the S.S. Classifieds.
Will post here to let everyone know when the listing is live.
Guy, The Voltage Regulator is on my list of things to tackle.
Already reverse engineered the 831 charger and have a working prototype.
Starting production of the 802/803 Remote Start Controllers now. :-D

Correct, your set does not have the "quad" modification.
Definitely something you need to install before attempting to start it.
See TB 11-6115-741-24 for the details on how to do the Quad Mod and parts required.
The silver box is part of the Arctic Heater. See TB 9-6115-641-13
The cut wires are part of the magnetic pickup sensor for sensing if the generator RPM is >900 RPM after cranking.
This is to disengage the starter and flash the field of the genhead when starting the set.
Per TM 9-8115-842-24...
Do NOT bypass the fuse!!!!
A bad fuse generally indicates that the voltage regulator is bad (shorted bridge rectifier inside). A couple of hundred dollars to replace.
If you BYPASS the fuse AND the voltage regulator is bad it will burn up the quad winding in the generator head requiring a...
That part is a 0.01 ohm 2 watt 1% resistor made by Ohmite. It's the current sense resistor in the charger.
Part number 12FR010E. Can be purchased from several electronic supply houses for ~$3.15 US

Solar battery bank and 5K inverter kept the whole house running quietly thru the night.
Fired up the 802 his morning for coffee and to cook breakfast on the electric range.
Switch to an 831 after breakfast since the house only needed about 1,500 watts to run everything after that. Didn't want...
Lost power here in Massachusetts at 4:30 pm today. Rolled out the 802A, fired it up and continued to cook dinner in the oven. Latest (very optimistic) outlook for power restoration in around midnight. I highly doubt it seeing there are over 1,200 outages at the moment in the region.
So nice...
TM5-6115-585-34 has a section on troubleshoot.
Page 2-9 in the July 1977 version of the TM.
If you have the PDF you can search for... ENGINE RUNS NORMALLY BUT GENERATOR HAS NO OUTPUT
Looks like there are the rounded corner version and a square corner version.
I have a good one I'm working with now. I don't want to do any further dis-assembly of it and risk damaging it.
Thank you for the offer. I'll hold out for a while and hope to get a defective one.
Anyone have a defective MEP-831A battery charger available?
I need one I can partly disassemble to do some reverse engineering.
I'd pay for shipping.
If it's fixable I'll repair it and return it to you.
(Posting here instead of classifieds since no one would likely look in the parts wanted...
There is a marine diesel service place on the coast here in Massachusetts that offers Yanmar parts. A google search for the part lead me to them. I just shot them an email to see if they can get the part, lead time and cost. I could swing down and pick them up for you if they can get them...
