Actually the safest way to use the jack-stands is to place them on the frame and just let the axle hang down. The springs can "shift" and then the whole truck will come down on you. You will need some 12ton stands to do this though ( their taller), or you must use some "cribbing" for the...
I wished I had kept a journal to just remind me of all the things I have modified already ! These last two projects have morphed into a whole truck modification of their own ! The first one was the auxiliary cab heater. While I was waiting on parts for that I decided to put together a "Fording...
If I had the money I would have gone with a total stainless steel system with the "Aero-Turbine " muffler. I love that muffler ! But for now this is the best I can do.
Yes the chains stretch. I've only seen one chain break and that transfer-case had been horribly abused ! The problem with stretching is then your gear timing goes out the window as "porkysplace" mentioned. Your front axle is always a few degrees out from the rear axle. To check this twist the...
The first picture shows how I used some heavy duty hose wrap to keep the slobber hose from rubbing on the shackle mount and since the wrap is for 3/4" hose it is compressing the 1-1/4" hose so the hose will not collapse at the bend.
The second picture shows the slobber tube from tank to...
Here is the finished exhaust system. I have more pictures but their not up loading.
The bracket is there to protect the slobber tank air-intake hose from burning since it is close to the exhaust. It's aluminum so it should dissipate the heat nicely.
Actually the conversion rating is up to the manufacture. The "WARN 8ton WLL" (Over-head load continuous duty) is rated 5X for a pulling load so the actual rating is 40,000Ibs. They advertise it as a 36,000Ibs . Other manufactures like "McKissick" rate their snatch blocks as "4X" .
So you really...
The exhaust system is in and I'm working on the new air-filter housing. I should have that installed in a few days.
I received the manual air-control valve yesterday. It is big ! There is no way it will fit in the panel I made, so I will be keeping the electric solenoid for now. Which works out...
I remember a truck looking like that on ebay not that long ago..owner wanted something stupid like $15k or $20k for it. The writeup had doomsday in it so I immediately figured that it must be worth ten times as much and runs on unicorn farts :)
Unicorn farts have tremendous BTU values !!!! You...
I've seen the oil that comes out of a good centrifuge. It is pretty clean. So using the 1 micron filter and then the centrifuge I would think you are good to go to use this as fuel. After all your using a half and half mixture of gasoline and oil right ? So even if there is some carbon left it...
Cast-iron drills differently then steel. You will not get the long curly-cuews like you do with steel. It comes out more like a powder. So if you drill until your almost through, then start your engine you will be fine. Just be sure to wear goggles as the cast-iron dust will be blown into your...
This is not a gas engine, there is no fuel vapor entering the engine. Diesel fuel must be injected into the combustion chamber at the correct time to cause ignition. There is no other way. If you try and introduce fuel from the intake manifold it will denote before the pistons reach top dead...
There are "only two" sources of fuel to keep a diesel running. The injection pump and engine oil. Not a multitude. Shut-off the fuel and in 99.9999999 percent of the time you kill the engine. The only way engine oil can enter the combustion chamber is if you have a really bad problem which just...
In all my years in trucks and heavy equipment I only once saw a turbo leak so bad it made the engine run after the fuel was shut-off. Really the turbo must be leaking a lot to provide enough fuel to keep the engine running. Since I would never allow my turbo to get that bad I don't worry about...
I remember when this welder came out. I thought it was a "gimic" not a real welder. I never knew the military decided to use it and that it performs so well ! I remember "Premier Supply" sold them for off-road kits you put on your trucks. They where pretty pricey then. For the $600.00 their...
