Can anyone help identify this engine?

Here's a picture of mine. The generator say it is a 10KW unit but it has the ability to go to 30% over capacity. I asked at the base (McCord Air-Force base) what this was used for. They told me it was a field hospital unit or a power source for a mobile "tower" for planes. I never knew that the...

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

I agree here. Also the part being checked must be at operating temperature. Heat expands the metal, also cracks. I would bring the engine up to operating temp and then try and pressurize the system with at least 10psi. Since you never experienced any coolant loss this is all a moot point.

Wheel removal for wheel cylinder replacement advise

The "pork chop" wrench has a 90 degree end to catch into the wheel. Since the wheel is already off you can just use a long wrench to go through one of the wheel holes and an impact gun to take off the "square drive" stud.

my version of big dumb trailer?

Since you know I am so sensitive why do you always hurt my feelings ?!?! LOL !!!!! I was referring to your last dozen or so comments. Cranky. If you watch closely they only engage the trailer wheels when it got stuck. I don't believe they drive it with that engaged all the time. I really like...

Got a new (M275 Tractor) project a few weeks ago

If it's "wet stacking" there will be a definite smell of fuel in the oily mess. If it's just plain oil coming out then you have other issues. Remember "wet stacking" is basically just over fueling. Since diesel engines inject the same amount of fuel given a certain RPM, if the engine is not...

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

The NP205 was designed to run gear oil. The only time they ever mentioned using ATF was with the (failed) front synchro shaft design (1982-1984) . I have run Synthetic gear oil in mine for years now. Works great !

my version of big dumb trailer?

Those crazy Russians are always coming up with fixes for difficult problems. I think there must be a "Mad Scientist Gene" in the Russian people ! This truck and trailer is still way cool though ! and I bet it is some home made system too.

Can anyone help identify this engine?

That engine was used on the Air-Force 10KW gensets. I have one. The engine isn't what is worth so much. The injectors and injection pump is. They stopped using this engine when they could no longer get injectors and pumps for it. I know I needed an injector for mine. That was why mine was...

MEP 002a sx460 AVR conversion 7.5 amp breaker trippping.

I was unable to get any power from my MEP-002A without flashing the field. The generator doesn't hold any magnetism that I can see. At this point I just might try and use two large capacitors and use them to control the field. A lot of cheap generators use that system. You just need to get the...

Gasoline in a 6.2 CUCV what?

Actually my M1034 came with dual tanks. It was an Air-Force unit used in the maintenance depot. It also had dual rear wheels.

I know too much money, but it still is fun to dream right ?

Has anyone tried to fit this pump in?

In all honesty there is not much difference between the "Parker" and "Olympic" pumps (except sound levels) . Like I have said many times now, they both produce the same pressures in my system which has identical lines to each tank so they are also producing the same flow. If one pump can...

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

That is also the thing that I keep coming back to. What has caused that one cylinder to loss so much pressure ?! Was something cracked ? That "tink" sound you heard keeps coming to mind. We ruled out piston rings. The break-in process would not explain this. The gaskets looked fine. The pistons...

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

I'm glad to be of assistance ! Though entertaining comments do belong to "Ahab" . He is the master there !

MEP 002a sx460 AVR conversion 7.5 amp breaker trippping.

I haven't worked on my generator project for several months now (trying to get the deuce ready) . I'm beginning to wonder how the SX460 handles the flashing circuit. Does it ground the signal ? If it does that would explain the overvoltage I kept having. I have also fried over three SX460...

Got a new (M275 Tractor) project a few weeks ago

I just spent over $200.00 to go back to the old style for my front an rear directional lights ! The newer plastic housings have a tendency to crack so I wanted the quality aluminum housings.

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

Well from what you just mentioned the shop sounds like they know what their doing. I would get a written estimate and a written guarantee stating what would be repaired on a return.

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

I might look old but my heart is young ! Though last week I scared the crap out of myself when I went to the bathroom after waking up and looked in the mirror. I saw my father looking at me ! and he's been dead for decades ! I realized of course it wasn't a ghost I was seeing but myself, but for...

my version of big dumb trailer?

Floridianson you've been in a cranky mood lately. Every idea I mention you have some negative thing to say about it. This is just a pipe dream. I don't expect to see anyone ever try it, it just is a cool idea. Like flying to the moon in a home built rocket ship ! Though this idea could come to...
