That is depressing ! When I was in we had to walk a 100miles up hill each way ! OK not that bad, but I remember I broke my foot ( the large long bone on top of your foot) on the confidence course. Every day I would just ram my foot into my boot and lace up those strings as tight a I could stand...
That's a hard one Wildchild. I would almost go with the new pistons again and some new rings (check the gaps) . The old pistons could have some distortion you cannot see.
There is paint you can use. It's "weld through" primer. It is high in Zinc and when it melts due to the heat of welding the zinc flows out. Very pricy stuff though. It's just easier and I think better to build the parts, paint them and then assemble them.
Your post brought back some adventurous vehicle recovery stories of my own ! One of the lessons I learned is if "God" is saying to stop and get a part then STOP and get the part ! LOL !!! Another thing is always take along cash ! Some places won't take your Credit or Debit cards !
All together...
. Getting brake drums only to turn was very rare. Usually got tire, hub and drum as an assemble singles and duels.
BTW this works good to:
so far had to replace 5 of the 6 seals on the M944.
Most shops remove the whole wheel assembly. It is faster and cheaper to do it that way. We also do...
I'll give you a quick tip. Snatch blocks are your friend ! Also the winch makes the most power at the first layer of line on the drum. So by using snatch blocks to run out the line on the drum your increasing your line pull tremendously. Also each snatch block used "doubles" your line pull ...
I would love to be able to teach this stuff to anyone who wants to learn. Sadly my son doesn't care at all about mechanics or vehicles or anything outside of his computer. To bad you all live across the nation ! Of course I'm sure the Marines are still teaching this stuff ! (I hope ! )
I'm too old to take the whole thing off in one piece ! Really that is the only reason. As far as the bolts on the frame itself go, you really want to avoid welding on any frame. The possibility of stress fractures are too great.
, I am just curious what could cause these lines to fail the way they have, I mean to have leaks the entire length of three hoses it quite a lot -- even for lines that are 23yrs old.
Remember that rubber rots when exposed to air. There is a shelf life on all rubber products even tires and...
If you go with quality "Parker" steel braided hose and steel fittings you won't be ripping anything out. Unless you really get hung-up on some nasty piece of vine maple ! Have I mentioned how I hate vine maple ?
Even then though if the hose is strong enough it won't break.
I've found and so did the transit agency that normal batteries (not Odyssey's) don't like being charged higher then 28 volts. They loose too much water due to outgassing . In a perfect world I'm sure the 28.8 volts works fine but as we all know this is not a perfect world. Better to run on the...
