Why did they think the springs were shot?
Did they tell you that's what they were doing or they just showed up like that?
New OEM type springs would have taken care of the issue for not much more $$ and already had new bushings in them.
Now that you will have to raise back of truck to match it...
You can find the relay on eBay under cucv or with the correct number any parts store.
The voltmeter can be replaced with a 24v one and will work perfect.

I have the same problem with my M989A1.
Can't back it up to same my life.
It has a front steering locking pin, but that's for backing straight back on flat open ground.
At least yours is lighter.

Highly recommend to ditch the stock alternator asap.
When mine went bad, it was instant.
Took out PCB and ABS module.
CTIS controller hasn't acted same since, so count that too.
I coukd have bought three new Delco-Remy alternators for what its
cost me to replace what the lousy stock...
I hope you bought a good one. (ACDelco, GM, Delphi).
The cheapie I used to get my M1008A1 initially going lasted a whole two weeks.
It was so much fun doing that job again.
My ACDelco has been flawless for 16 months now.
