The first one is a rusted mess, I would not buy it ever. The rocker panels are scabbed on and the cab floors are plate steel. The rockers on the second one look better but there are still rust issues there as well. Kaiser did not put any paint or anything inside the hollow rocker panels.
If you have two hot batteries the engine should crank over like crazy assuming the starter is good. Check for hot cable terminations after cranking before condemning the starter.
I posted diy 16x16 frame dimensions in this thread: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?91329-How-to-get-a-tent/page3 Thanks to Sermis for the frame.
Did Kevin tell you this truck came from Norway or Italy? Mine came from Italy for sure as evidenced by all the 1970's hard core Italian **** mags behind the driver's seat.
Check the thick purple wire from the doghead relay to the starter motor. It goes through the bulkhead connector in the firewall under the brake booster.
I think the hinged grille of the early A1 makes it very slightly more desireable, but the 8 thumbscrews to get to the batteries is a bit of a pain. I would buy based on which had the better body tub.
Agreed, I have seen the Ramrod in numerous GL auction glamour shots. The -13 manual calls for the XMT which is a heck of a welder.
What I cannot figure out is where the big tool chest is supposed to go. The -13 calls for a 5140-00-388-3416 Tool box which is a 13"W 26"L 15"H "top chest" made...
The hard part of the tool load to find is the Miller XMT300 welder. It also takes a Miller Spoolgun 3. The balance of the tools are items you probably already own. (Cutting torch, socket sets, etc.)
What is your NSN. There are three variants: eod, eng and ord. Please edit your post to be the correct M number, unless it is a motorcycle contact maintenance vehicle.
I know this must have been covered here before but I cannot find it. What color were the wheels of 1008's and 1009's when they rolled off the assembly line, 383 Brown or Black? My un-repainted 1009 wheels look brown.
Mark, I have the two wires that come out of the generator if you need them, correct cloth wire, new production. Nice restoration you have going on there.
