Nice tractor. Quick question, why did you pull the axle shafts as opposed to either pulling the driveshafts or doing nothing? Seems like you are signed up for wheel bearing service now because road grit undoubtably got in the grease and bearings.
Just put Dexron in the Hydramatic, can be any version, they are all based on 10 weight oil. Run regular unleaded in the 302, with the few miles you will put on the truck it won't warrant the expense of valve seats.

Welcome to the site. You are correct, an original US military M170 would not have that configuration serial number. Does your Jeep have the removable retangular instrument panel? And the remanants of a 24 volt system? If not, you most likely have an export "M170" and then the serial would be...
SECO (Southeastern Equipment) Augusta, GA had 100's of these at one time. Most were made into what you have. If somebody wanted to restore a M4, they would be far better off finding one that is not cut off. On yours, the grapple is valuable, I'm actually looking for one (locally) right now...
