If you get a hot spark with the cap off, but no spark at any of the plugs with the cap on, the cap has a hairline crack where the electricity is jumping through to get to ground.

If the trans controller is not powered, cranking is inhibited. I would send the controller to transmissioninstruments.com for evaluation and repair if needed. Check the connectors on the unit for looseness when you pull it.
The problem is caused by the reduction cone clutch sticking. If you don't use low range, the cone should not get stuck. The "acts like park" is the high and low range applying at the same time due to the stuck clutch.
