My M1009 Had some crappy rubber pad under the seats in the front. I took the front seats out, tore out the pad, tore out all the nasty padding that was under it, and cleaned all the floor boards up with a lot of CLR, a water hose, some elbow grease, and a lot of help from my sister. Looks much...
Yep, never had the problem before the transmission swap, but I didn't have it directly afterward either. :cookoo: I'll try to take some more pictures of everything tomorrow.
Ok, thanks guys. I've been going out to the shop in between postings here. I'm pretty sure I've found the spot where the transfer case is hitting the floor. It's left a little bit of tell tale rub evidence. I'm just not sure what to do about it. Maybe it's time for some new mounts. The odd thing...
That would still put the crossmember in the same position that it is now. I was wondering if the spacers were supposed to be between the crossmember and the frame in order to lower the case down a little bit.
Well, I crawled under the truck today, took the dust cover off the bell, and checked the torque converter bolts. All were tight as could be, and no play in anything. I checked the bolts between the transfer case and the trans, and all those were tight. I checked the exhaust hangers, and they...
I had the transmission out not long ago, so torque converter bolts would make sense. I couldn't get a torque wrench on them any way I tried, but I did Locktite them and tighten them down as tight as I could with the ratchet.
I'll check them. I only have two, on on each side with my side exit exhaust. The dramatic thunk that I get when switching directions makes me think drive train though, in which case if it does it even with the vehicle stopped, it really couldn't be anything any further south than the torque...
I added a tow bar to mine. Bought it "used" for $50 bucks, still in the box and never used. It's the type where you just pull a couple of pins to release each side of the bar from the brackets on the truck. Works great.
I drove into town and back today with the 1009, and on the way home, I started hearing and occasional "clunk, clunk" from somewhere underneath the truck. I noticed that it still did it even when stopped at a light, so I figured it had to be something that was turning even with the truck sitting...
This idea is really getting me thinking. I drove by the local Shell today, and diesel was at $3.92. Even if I used a 50/50 mix, either WMO or WVO could dramatically reduce my fuel bill! [thumbzup]
