Hmm, not sure then. The light system on these CUCVs is extremely ground sensitive... a break in any one of the grounds in the front harness will cause all kinds of headlight/marker light problems but you should have been able to get a test light to light by connecting to the core support if you...
They probably have the battery hooked up backwards... it goes from front to back:
Radiator Core Support to front battery Negative
Front battery Positive to rear battery NEGATIVE
Rear battery Positive to firewall positive buss bar (upper one).
I'd put money on the fact that they probably hooked...
No, the resistor on the firewall only drops the voltage for the glow plugs. The 12V for the rest of the truck runs off of the front battery only.
All of the lights, gauges, indicators, etc are 12V. The only 24V components in the vehicle are the voltmeter, the starter, and the resistor on the...
Yes and no... the CUCVII and CUCVIII were based on the later 89-01 and Silverado body style trucks.
They have blackout lights, a 6.5L turbodiesel (Duramax in the latest trucks) and 24V systems like a CUCV, but have more creature comforts like AC and a basic stereo.
The AF and Navy purchased...
I'm considering purchasing a truck near Jacksonville FL and was wondering if anyone could go check it out for me in more detail.
It's a 1980 Chevy Dually wrecker that has the parts I need to build a CUCV wrecker.
Drop me a line if you can help.

MilSpec gensets are extremely loud and inefficient compared to their civvy counterparts. A MEP-002 is a 5KW generator, you can get a much quieter and more efficient modern genset for only a couple of hundred dollars. As a bonus, you will get frequency regulation, something neither of the two...
Hooray for sane officials... Pretty much the same response I got from my local zoning official. A calm rational response got a calm rational answer which is what's supposed to happen.

Came across this on Craigslist and thought I'd pass it along in case anyone can go see what he really has... I might be interested in that CUCV's top in one of the pics (looks like a tinted sliding side window top) if someone could help me with retrieval. He has pics of M109s, an M813, and...
That's what happens when you hook to the bumper and lift... The outside two bolts are holding it in place, but the frame bolts are missing or ripped through. Probably missing since the brush guard is gone.

One of our MVCC members did a vent mod on his 818... check it out here:

My neighbors hate me... The old lady two houses down didn't waste any time when I brought my 818 home. It was in the driveway for less than 12 hours when she asked my girlfriend what I had that big green ugly truck for. When it stayed there for more than 2 weeks, she called code enforcement and...
Yea, I wouldn't recommend going 200 miles pulling an 820 with a deuce... too much chance for catastrophic failure.
The hoses are just rubber hoses with glad hands on each end. You hook them to the glad hands on the back of the deuce like a trailer and to the front of the 5T so it acts like a...
Um, no, the standard is now 8'6" and the HC is 9'6". The 8' containers are harder to find.
Here's a website that lists the dimensions

How far are you talking?
Do you have/can you get interconnection hoses so that the 5 ton's brakes work?
Do the 820's brakes work? Will it hold air?
If you're talking a short trip at low (30MPH or less) speeds and with hoses so that the 820's brakes will help stop it, then it is feasible but...
