Just an update to help anyone else having issues. Mine wouldn't engage the front axle and was blowing air into the T-case. After taking it apart I found that the piston was installed backwards. Works perfect now. I love easy and free fixes!
I understand that either can be used in the transmission. I'm just trying to understand how they won't mix and how they would cause damage to the clutches.
How would Dex and 10W not mix? I've never heard that before. Dex should have a similar viscosity as 10w and both are "oils" so I don't see why this would cause harm.
It's actually very easy to pull the tranny. I used a 2 ton shop crane through the driver door with a chain hoist attached to it. Once loose, start letting chain out until it's on the floor. I had a movers dolly under the truck to catch it, roll the old out and new in.
I have not taken it apart yet, I was going to collect the repair parts first. I suppose I could take it apart and go to the local hydraulic supply house and get new orings there.
I have the 18K warn on my m923 and love it! I've used it to pull vehicles out of ditches and my truck when I got stuck in a snow filled ditch. It works great and is far easier to use than the hydraulic unit. If your doing lots of recovery, the hydraulic winch is probably the way to go. If...
I run 16.00r20 XZL's on my 923 and they are a far more superior tire than the 11.00R20 goodyear G177's they replaced.
No balance beads, weights or anything else, they run just fine.
Update
It was the "trimmer valve". If anyone else experiences the same issues, this is probably the culprit. I pulled the valve body and with the help of the Allison manual, figured it out and fixed it. Parts required were a baldwin filter kit and a trimmer valve assembly from ebay. About...
