You are probably right, Unfortunatly I already have the 500 FG. (got it cheap) Maybe I'll do some digging and make a secondary out of it. Only thing I see there though is that I think the secondarys run about 60 PSI and the FG is only rated for about 30.
Sounds like harmonics between road speed and bumps in the highway. When I drove interstate there were sreches of road that would ride smooth as glass at 63 and 66 MPP, But at 64 and 65 the truck would act like it was galloping. Different highways/vehicles have thier sweet spots.
Gimpy, I had a choice between 2, 10, and 30 micron and went with the 10 figuring that filters were cheaper and not near as big a pain in the rear to change as the IP is.
I still have the stock secondarys on it. Hoping to change them out to another Racor product eventually.
My tank is pretty...
I hope to install a Racor 500 fg primary filter on the deuce this weekend. I have a10 micron element for it and I intend to put it right above the fuel tank.
Has anybody else done something like this? Anything I should watch for?
I did a thread search and didn't find much.
Definitly easier and probably a bit cheaper, We just yanked all the DUVAC stuff off and put in a 12 volt alternator and starter. We have the mecanical version of the 8V92T.
Great idea, But if I might make a suggestion, Only give said list to SS members you know and trust. With a site that is well over 1000 members strong there is bound to be some potato head somwhere that would go and do the very thing that caused GL to instiute thier current procedures. Just my...
Gee thanks Goldeneagle,, That's about 1/2 hour worth of work with the welder for a reputation that will last a lifetime.
Not that my neighbors have any doubt about my lack of sanity as it is,,,,
Yup, The big heat sink thing sure sounds familiar,,, The DUVAC on the T6 firetruck was a wierd pain in the rear. It'd boil one battery and not charge the other one time, Then boil the other battery. Then both, Then wouldn't charge either one! The way it was SUPPOSED to work was that it would...
I just noticed the dual voltmeters a couple of pages back,, Does it have a DUVAC charging system? If it does I MIGHT have some spare electrical parts that came off of a couple of Oshkosh T6 firetrucks if you want them.
If I can make a suggestion on using copper shim/sheet to make crush gaskets, After you get them trimmed to the proper dimensions heat them to a dull red heat then quench them in water. That takes the work hardening out of them.
I did two head gaskets for an old air cooled diesel generator this...
I just ha to put my 2cents worth in,,
The way I look at it my deuce is 40 years old (1971 AMC general, I think) Same age as I am, And the truck runs better than I do.:)
The biggest thing you can do to keep them alive and going is proper maintenance and proper operation.
Hopefully if I keep...
Tried adjusting the drivers side rear axle bearings to get them to run cooler.
Filled her up with pump diesel (OUCH!)
Hauled off one load of stuff to be recyled and a load of trash, Really gotta love alll that room in the bed!
Oh, And finally replaced the parking brake cable and moushache spring...
