    Uses for Deuces

Yeah, then you KNOW one corner of the scaffolding isn't going to sink into the earth while you are up there. Hope no one moves the Deuce.

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

Good! For diesels, I like 4 ring pistons with long skirts. (not on women tho) Around the time those trucks were built, and before, a lot of engines came with "break in oil" which was supposed to be changed in 500 miles or such. Break in oil was really just crappy oil that had poor wear...

M939A2 Fumoto Oil Drain Valve Install

Yeah, I know - magnet just makes me feel better. Engines - I figure if cam lobe or lifter, rings, etc decide to start vacating premises, maybe I will see particles and be smart enough to do something before total failure. But then, I have been known to occasionally cut open filters to see what...

M939A2 Fumoto Oil Drain Valve Install

The only disadvantage I see is you loose the magnet. I have magnets on everything.

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

74M35A2 is telling you the same thing I said. Re WMO - you have to know what is in it. A town about 10 miles from me is running diesel drain oil in their dump trucks and garbage trucks. They heat, settle, centrifuge and use fine filters. Started with 50% WMO, I heard they had problems, cut to...

Gasoline in a 6.2 CUCV what?

Before speculating on damage, I would change engine oil and filter. If oil is gas diluted, would flush system. Try again with proper weight diesel engine oil in it, and if still noisy, describe noises or video it.

CUCV Snow Plow Trucks and Spreaders

Well, if they allow sales to third parties, sounds like a nice way to get one that has not been DMRO's or had the driveshafts forklifted,

Piston Rings Worn Out, Time for a Rebuild

Hi, some comments, worth what you are paying for them: Dye penetrant, which is what you are doing, is NOT magnaflux. Dye just seeps into cracks that are clean and large enough for it to get into. I have checked parts with dye and seem ok, still had trouble, had them magnafluxed - find a crack...

5 ton Bobsled, Recovery assistance near Berkeley Springs WV

All is Good!:recovry4x4: I was concerned that truck was near tipping point. Dozer op made perfect pulls.

5 ton Bobsled, Recovery assistance near Berkeley Springs WV

That could work, if he put a thick sheet of plywood on top of cables to make sure a civy car with small tires cannot possibly foul a cable.

5 ton Bobsled, Recovery assistance near Berkeley Springs WV

That little dozer weighs LESS than your truck! Watch your pick points. Looks like will need a lot of pulling. Easy to bend things.

Agree. That is why I did not suggest trying to jack it up.

5 ton Bobsled, Recovery assistance near Berkeley Springs WV

I helped get a dump truck that went into ditch out one time. Because of angle and mud, we could not jack it and put stuff under low wheels, so we took pickup and got a load of bluestone and buckets. We kept pouring the rocks in front of wheels that were slipping and got her out. If it seems...

    M108 deuce wrecker engine swap

Just a thought - if you are going to do much off-roading with something that has a high CG like a wrecker, consider roll bars. Stock cab does not hold up well with all that weight. The bars could be unobtrusive.

    Distracted driving

"I've also noticed that in the traffic "herd", if a driver sticks out, people give them more space and more drivers see this space and appear to wonder what's wrong with the driver that other people are leaving space for" That's interesting- could improve safety. Besides driving a FMV or a...

    Trans fluid question?

I would certainly get radiator rodded. Before doing more than the radiator, thermostat, hose and pump rot/ vane loss check, I would take truck to a trans guy I trust. The TH400 was a very popular civi trans. Just about any trans shop should be very familiar with it. Wouldn't hurt to check line...

    Trans fluid question?

Careful off-roading with that. Remember to clean out tubes afterwards.

    Distracted driving

We have had law here for years. Read in police report page of newspaper lots of tickets issued. Does not seem to phase people. Truck, bus and limousine drivers have been filmed doing it. sometimes, the video makes TV news. On bad accidents, police now check to see if drivers were using cell...

    Backwards Batteries

That is a good question. When you said "The batteries had long since been replaced with regular commercial truck batteries." my mind went to tractor trailer configuration - 2 commercial truck batteries for 24 volts.

    Backwards Batteries

Always check the easy stuff first. Make sure both batteries are still good and fully charged. A low battery could cause you to waste a lot of time and $$$$. Alternator may have survived. The nose knows. Not familiar with yours, but most have a fusible link to protect in event of diode...
