Welcome into the light. As far as “bobbing” I would look at how you plan to use the truck. If you are planning on driving it a lot, sort of a daily driver I could see the advantage of a bobbed truck. I only drive mine on the weekend as a rule and like to keep it fairly original. I wish you well...
I have always wondered about the military attachment to the DD. When I first was going to diesel engine training in the late 70's most of the DD engines we rebuilt came from the Navy or Army. It's a ok engine if you don't mind noise, smoke, lack of power and using as much oil as diesel.
That almost looks like the Winter US & Europe-Verdant minus the sand color.

I know that my 02 F250 with the 7.3 is quieter when towing our travel trailer. I believe it is because with the added load on the engine the cylinder pressure increases and helps in a more complete and efficient combustion cycle.
Unfortunately that is the norm anymore. I did all the seals, wheel cylinders and front boots about 18 months ago and the front boots are starting to split already. They are “Newstar” stuff so I learned a lesson there.
Well if I had the funds I would be looking at these in the 11.00X20 size. They really look sharp on the deuce in the 10 tire configuration. 2cents

Does it have any data plates ? They made a ton of single axle box trailers over the years so using the same platform to make a flatbed would be reasonable. I have not seen one though.
