Geeze...59 year old rubber is got to be getting hard and in the cold weather too. When I get mine to the point of moving on it's own I plan on taking the rubber lines down to a local company that makes hydraulic lines. Might not be authentic but will be safer.

Okay will do with some diesel. Maybe this weekend as we are getting ready for another dive in the temperature.
The M35 had a 10 am slow blow fuse in the line going to the current pump in the tank. The fuse was blown. A 10 amp seems high for a pump.

I was parts picking the other day but not for the M35. The guy had a M35 fuel pump laying on a shelf among some other parts. I asked him if the pump was good. It looks almost new with some shelf wear on it. He said take it and try it and if it works then pay me. We are good friends so I...
Yes I took my oval plate off and cleaned mine out. I read an older post where they guy used an old hacksaw blade to carefully slide in underneath the cooler assembly. I did this during the summer while holding a garden hose with the water running to help flush it out while I moved the blade...
Since there has not been much G749 action on the site I decided to post pictures of the starter I redid over the last 3 weeks in the shop.
The starter that came on the M211 would only smoke when I tried it. I figured it was history since the metal cover was missing on the back of the starter...
Those screws are a pain in the you know what. They are always breaking. I had to take the frame off of my friends M37 and turn it upside down so I could spray PB Blaster on them for a few days. Still ended up breaking one screw off. I had to drill out the screw shaft.
I figure my...
Hey Klunk, If you live in Canada see if you can get in touch with Ralph Journeay over in Ontario, he runs Niagara Military Parts. He has G749 Canadian parts. 905.732.4122
I suggest before you go too far changing things you download the manuals for your truck.

The thin metal oil line sounds like the vent / air lines. One of them should go the the governor on the carburetor.
The air horns need to...
Been too busy to work on the tank. I can get my arm inside the tank where the pump mounts. So now I am thinking of cutting holes in the baffle wall and using my re-bar and doing electrolysis on that end of the tank and then laying it down and doing the same on the open end of the tank.
I plan on doing that for my final step. The instructions for it say remove all rust that could detach from the lining.
Current step - Remove and kill all rust.
Then:
Rinse out with Phosphoric acid - This will neutralize the effects of a rust killer and etch for the liner.
Rinse out with...
I have a 60 gallon fuel tank that I have let sit full for 24 hours with lye inside. I rinsed it out this morning and now it is very clean inside. Above where the fuel sat for years about 1/4 of the top part of the tank there is a band of rust.
This tank has a series of baffles inside...
I had time this weekend to work on the fuel pump and tank. I wanted to slide the inner part of the pump housing from the outer part so I could get to the pump. But it would not budge. So I decided to use the torch on it to heat the outside so it would expand. Well all that stuff that looks...
I decided to take the fuel pump assembly apart late this afternoon before the sun went down and it got cold.
I took the filter screens off and the pump was totally rusted, so much it was in two pieces.
Anyone cleaned the filter screens? What did you use?
Alan
Since the weather is keeping me from working on my fuel tank I started on my battery tray project.
The battery tray that mounts on the ledge in front of the cab was rusted through on the passenger side. The drivers side is not much better.
I decided to try and make my own tray using the...
Worrying about the rubber mount I took the pump assembly out. The rubber looks fine. There is a number of items rattling around inside the fuel pump housing. I will take that apart another day.
The fuel tank is in a shed. Right now its about 35 degrees, rainy and windy so that is all I...
Hi Bert,
How did you come up with the build date of Feb 13th?
I have found on the G741 site trucks with serial numbers of 80045940, 80046229 and 80046262 that the owners say had delivery dates of 2-10-53. Now I know those are the dates the Army accepted the trucks and what the current...
Have to put the tank cleaning on hold as we have had so much rain its a quagmire around the work shop and I have to tote the tank around with a hand truck.
I did think about strapping the tank on the forks of the tractor and shaking it really good. I have what I think is an NOS fuel pump...
