    recommend us a rally!

Northwest Mogfest, August 16, 17, 18, and 19, Sheridan, Oregon. That might fit right in to your schedule! NorthWest MogFest There will probably be about 100 Unimogs, Pinzgauers, Halflingers, many other European military and offroad vehicles, and a couple hundred kindred spirits. Well worth...

    Ready Welder

Here is my Ready Welder power source Exide batteries and the 3 inductors salvaged from an M-G UPS. The connectors on the insulator strip allow tapping 3, 2, 1 or zero coils in series by moving the battery clamps (which came on the Ready Welder).

    Ready Welder

Just noticed this thread update. I'll take some pictures and post them. The coils were out of a huge 3 phase UPS system, used for something about phase stabilization.

help me design a radio shelter

Probably the best buy in full coverage HF radio right now is British Clansman RT-320, aka, PRC-320. Rx and Tx from 2 MHz to 30 MHz, USB only but there are conversions available to add LSB (for 75 and 40m). Lots of accessories available too. This is not a rack radio but could be bracketed to...

    Which antenna's for this mount?

Another option, get simple AB-15 or similar base (fits same mount), add MS-116, -117, or -118 sections cut for CB length, and get the best performance from a true military antenna with no internal mods to do. ps: and that won't trash a good military antenna :D Bob WB4ETT

    Which antenna's for this mount?

Looks like AS-3900 base. That is a newer generation 30 to 70 MHz antenna. Notice there's no band switching. This antenna has been designed for ‘instantaneous bandwidth’ and performs equally bad on all frequencies" (found that statement somewhere).:???: It will work across it's intended...

Max tire size on a 406?

Oh Boy, you are going to love that 406 mog!!! It would do just fine with 12.5 tires for the purpose you intend, with none of the problems associated with larger tires.

Markings on a Unimog 404 radio truck

While sanding a radio box for a 404 Unimog, these two markings were found. Can anyone identify them? Sorry for the poor pictures. There are many coats of paint so it was tough to know whether to sand more or less. There is a red 'shield' as part of one marking. That same emblem has two...

Max tire size on a 406?

Yep, about 42-43. You can still have a lot of fun and capability with a set of surplus 14.5 x 20 Michelin XL's for minimum $$. Sounds to me those would do it for you until you get into competition :-)

Max tire size on a 406?

Hi Dano, I have one 406 with 14.5's and those work fine. You gain some road speed too. There are a couple of negatives to consider: If off roading, you'll stuff those big tires into iron and sheet metal occasionally, and might tear off the hydraulic fluid return line if you do not re-route...

    RT-524 and intercom control question.

Good looking radio and neat installation! Sorry I haven't a clue to help you.

    Ready Welder

I have had one for about that long, too. Use it all the time. I just completed replacing some cab metal on a 404 Unimog and the Ready Welder handled the sheet metal well, too. As already stated, it handles heavy welding also, as long as your 24 volt source is adequate. By the way, the output...

Ham Radio Operators / Steel Soldiers

I played around with a PRC-320 Clansman HF transceiver, but didn't really participate this year. I feel like I wasted the weekend! (did go visit a couple of Field Day sites though.) Bob WB4ETT

    Our Neighbor Needed a Lift!

Great pictures of a neat machine at work. I especially like how the trailer tires and wheels pop out as you lower the trailer, "Transformer" style!!

    M105 Too big? think again

I like it! That's a great combination (but hardly fits M-105 category any longer). Modifications like that are certainly a lot of work but definitely worth it to the owner!

Good job! Hang in there to get the Ham license! Bob WB4ETT

    Unimog rear portal axle

Looks like rear axle for Unimog 419, the SEE (small emplacement excavator).

Anyone put a travel trailer on a Deuce or 5 ton?

Yes, that has been done. The camper on the MB 1017 is/was a Hi-Lo trailer that Bill Caid mounted on his military truck. Works great, and has AC! (the camper on the red truck was not a trailer, just a slide-in camper and no AC). Mercedes 1017A Camper Construction 20100921

    Fair radio order, not impressed...

I've been buying from Fair Radio since the '60's. They sell surplus stuff at a good price, and that can include dirt and some wear and tear. If they cleaned every part, the price would have to go up. Personally, I'd just wash the AB-15 and clean the rust, and move on. The top sections are...
