Welcome to SS. I'm just down the road from you in Greenback. We have a rather active military vehicle group in this area. Check out Knoxville Military Vehicle Club at Home. Activities include parades, eat-outs, and camping.

PRC-74, 74B, and 74C are 12v. These are manpacks but no reason they could not be installed in a vehicle.
PRC-320 (British Clansman) HF radio and PRC-351/352 series VHF radios are 24v but have a 12v DCCU available (DC charging unit) that runs on 12v vehicle and keeps 24v battery topped up. I...
Hi Paperweight,
Those are neat little receivers. I have one that I got working once by using several external power supplies for power, but I don't have the original power supply. Do you have the power supply? The PS's are commonly kaput.
Good luck.

That sounds odd. A starting system should draw a certain amount of current at 12v, or 24v, no matter what the battery amperage capacity availability was. Adding more batteries in parallel does not 'force' more current into the starter...unless of course you got 24v on a 12v starter, etc.
Let...
Surplus Center has some nice Federal rotating beacons. I like rotating beacons and have two on the roof of my U-1300 Unimog fire truck as original equipment. The Federal model 14 beacons from Surplus Center look just like the ones on my truck so I know they are tough quality. They don't have...
You should do some quick math first. Consider that 600 watts of space heater, run at 24 v is 25 amps continuous. A 1200 Watt microwave at 24v is 50 amps. Those numbers are straight math. Real world with conversion/inverters and loss is maybe 80% efficiency, at best. A small generator might...
Solargizers are basically pulse generators, ie, RF noise generators! I ran one here in the ham shack and could hear it on an antenna 100 ft away. Those long connecting wires become an antenna. Sure you could load the wires with ferrite filters and even bypass the solar panel leads to ground...
Just read this because I was camping for the weekend. Location here is about 30 miles SW of Knoxville. I do not have gooseneck hauling capability, or tires that size, so about all I can offer is a secure place to store anything you want to leave here. Not much help, I know.

If you consider that welding can impose 30, 40, 50 volts across small portions of the truck, that's enough voltage to damage lighting, regulators, gens and alternators. Bottom line depends on where the current flows. Sure, if welding on the frame and you put the ground on frame nearby, no...
It's labeled an "older PLS" in the picture at the bottom of this page:
Palletized Load System (PLS)
In the pictures, third row, second picture from left.
Sounds to me like classic trans/transfer rattle when the engine is at or near idle. The lower the idle, the worse it will be. What happens is the engine impulses cause the drive train to bounce, ie, twist, untwist, rapidly. That would not be due to clutch slippage.
Bet most Diesel drivers...
The light tower trailer has been completed. It received the last coat of '383' Rapco green today.
My intended use for the tower/trailer does not require a large generator so the MEP 017A will not be reinstalled. Instead, for use here for my ham station the trailer will be set up in the...
There is a PRC-320 group on Yahoo that could have been of benefit before this failed purchase. There have been other problems with this vendor.
Thankfully there are good, honest, sellers of RT/PRC-320 gear on the web. I have had multiple successful dealings with both ta_shunca_uitco and...
I also have a lube trailer, and the 4A032 had intermittent spark. Found the problem to be poor ground due to loose bolts on the cover on the front of the engine. Tightened bolts and no trouble since then.
These units are so much easier to work on after you pull the cover off!
Many modern radios with microprocessor do not really turn off completely. The off switch just tells the processor to go into standby and it still draws current. Yes, those will run down a battery. A separate external switch would solve your problem. Or, use a relay controlled by the ignition...
I remember seeing a jerry can converted to a tool box. Found some by googling 'jerry can tool box'. Would require a little fabrication but a great idea for a tool box or other carrier of parts.
We old guys have to update our vocab occasionally. Until yesterday I didn't know what 'twerk' meant. Best I can tell it means an uncontrollable shaking of the rear end. My trucks never did that. The shaking was always in the front.
This was supposed to explain it but I'm not sure I understand.
