You have provided a great set of descriptions of your trouble!
Antenna characteristics change as it is tied down nearer the vehicle, primarily from added capacitance from coupling to the vehicle. That changes the load on the transmitter and results in the "antenna fail" message. (what model...
I have done that, too, with a winch that draws 500 amp (11 hp) at full load, and no problems. Put a second slave receptacle on the winch and you can use a standard jumper cable for the interconnects. There's no dangling cable to have to manage on the winch either.
As already posted, if it's blinking it's working. No service is needed or possible. Rate of blink is the important issue. I have one sitting next to me here at the bench, getting light through two sliding double glass doors, and it blinks about once per second when sunlight comes through. In...
I have missed this thread! I'm southwest of Knoxville. I'd certainly be interested in a rally nearby. Windrock Park is a great place Windrock Park | Campground | East Tennessee Mountains | OHV Trails | RV Park | Mountain Cabin Rental | Primitive Camping | Windrock | ATV Riding | Off-Road |...
You may have a low battery voltage situation even if the batteries have never been used. Are your 'fresh' batteries the magnesium primary (non-rechargable) batteries?
Here's why I suggest that: If each receiver hears the other transmitters signal enough to break squelch, then both...
From your description the installation certainly is not original, but, those could possibly have been added to replace the ignition condenser across the points (assuming there are points!).
Could more likely be for radio interference filtering as you said, and if so these caps would be from the...
Here is a progress report on my tower/generator trailer. So far the trailer has been completely stripped and repainted with primer. Next job is to shoot it with 383 Green as first step toward a 3 color camo paint job.
The MEP-017A is not running yet (just haven't gotten to it) so is not on...
The rubber flex tubes (one to each front brake, one to front torque tube, one to rear torque tube) can squeeze shut from age. Once that happens the brakes still work but can be slow to release.
You can determine which ones are bad by what brake does not release.
Hint, if you suspect a hose is...
The big chain and ring on the rear confirms you have a Belgium truck. Both my trucks are German and 3rd switch is for a work light, 4th switch for electric transfer switch for fuel (for radio box heater), but that is probably not what your 3rd and 4th switches do.

That is a nice looking 404! It's not a Swiss version, might be Belgium, do you know? Are those fold down bed sides? Do you have a large tow chain with master ring across between the rear frame ends?
There is no standard Unimog. :| Each country that ordered 404 Unimogs for their military...
If you want to communicate at distance, as working stations on simplex, then height is good. Foliage won't appreciably attenuate the signal.
I've pulled many antennas into trees with a string, shot up with a bow. The arrow pulls a fishing line off a fishing reel, then pull the string, then...
I was sorta joking but thanks for the offer. If you think you will ever use a green radio with that LS-454 you might want to hang on to the transformer because you'll need it.
Your logic is correct, the antenna is on the verge of too short. You could add a tuning stub by selecting a brass screw that will screw tightly inside the cut off end. With a little ingenuity you might add a split nut there to maintain tension, braze it on, or solder. Just a couple of inches...
Anyone interested in green radios should have the two volumes of "MIL Spec Radio Gear", by Mark Francis, KI0PF.
These two volumes cover mostly man pack type radios but others also. This is the best source I have run across for info on the last generation radios, not the newest, but not the...
Probably would have worked better. The other method to paint POR-15 is to sand it after it is cured, then paint over it, which is the way I did it. Ditto on the other truck (another Unimog, a 406) and that paint over POR-15 worked great.
Thanks,
Consider that there are grounds for many different purposes. The common electrical ground is to kill unwanted voltages on places we don't want them, like the frame of the generator, or the metal handle of the drill you have in your hand. Grounds for antenna systems often provides a...
Looks like it might fit the MX-6707 base for the AS-1729 antenna or the later version of the MX-6707 (can't remember number [edit: AS 3900]). Or, the hole pattern might also fit the AB-558 base for the much simpler (and useable, IMHO) MS-16 series whip sections.
