Does your engine have the extra idler pulley between the generator and the power steering pump? If so, that would explain the 110.2" belt being much too short. If only slightly too short...

I had an issue with the brake caliper bracket bolts backing out and contacting the ends of the halfshaft bolts on both front calipers. Not exactly a knocking sound, but similar. Just something to check, along with the halfshaft bolts.

I agree with Action. The only way the batteries should drain with a battery disconnect on the negative is if something else is hooked up into the system causing a drain.
I had to bleed mine the same way. Left the cap off, filled to overflow, turn the wheels back and forth a few times, then refill, turn it on, turn the wheels, and put the cap on and called it good.
