Yeah that's wrecked. Throw that in the f*ckit bucket.
I got a used one on ebay for $100 that was in good shape - studs all cleaned up like new. Make sure there's no black stain of capacitor electrolyte leaking out of the back where it's potted.
In the meantime just bolt the battery and load...
Mine were also "gone" - especially the rear cab mount which just swiveled around. Previous owner swapped in a single of the thick mount but nothing else. I swapped in all the correct pieces - there's quite a few on the A1R cab latch mount. Two of the slim mounts, one of the thicker mounts...
12.6v is a fully charged battery. 10.5v is a fully discharged battery.
Anything in the 11.Xv range is EXTREMELY suspect and may have essentially zero capacity with shorted cells. See chart:
Disconnect each battery from the truck and LOAD TEST them. You can't continue the troubleshooting...
They make their own tooling in-house and can work from drawing or sample. And I assume this probably greatly reduces cost. These guys have been doing this and specializing in molded rubber parts for over 90 years. My guess is they have it figured out and can pass on the savings.
These really...
Well I assume he knows basically what he's talking about - again this is not a small operation this is a major rubber parts manufacturer and at one point did manufacture one of the two pieces (the smaller one) - and he made no mention of the tooling wearing out for such "small" production runs...
Spoke with a gentleman from a rubber manufacturing company - he can make them once he has drawings or samples.
The gist of the conversation is that it's probably going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $2,000 to create the tooling. And then some minimum order quantity of 100 to 200 pieces...
Load test the batteries. Number one priority. Disconnect them from the truck entirely for the test.
Transmission computer will be the first to complain about voltages that are out of it's range of operation. Mine did that when I had the over-voltage problem.
See my thread about the OVCO issue...
Military trucks don't typically have enough miles on them to exhibit the oil cooler issues. That is seen in higher mileage applications like school busses and over the road trucks, etc.
My A1R seems to have excellent driveline balance with the high-pinion rear axle. Once my 2008 tires rounded...
The C7 (in school bus and other higher mileage applications) is known for wanting very clean oil to the HEUI pump and cat supplies all replacement HEUI pumps with a new oil feed line that includes a serviceable cartridge filter. If you do some searching here on the forum I recently posted the...
Well the word from the Hutchinson distributors I talked to is that these part numbers are marked "no bid" and can't be ordered by any distributor because the tooling is owned by whoever had them design the mounts - which is probably Stewart and Stevenson - now BAE Tactical Vehicle Systems. I...
I reached out with some emails and phone calls to both BAE and a distributor for Hutchinson Aerospace to see about purchasing the correct cab mounts.
The military pays $12.02 for the big ones, and $10.47 for the skinny ones..... $78 for all of them on my A1R.......
We shall see what they...
For our style of rear cab latch you actually will need 4 bottoms - 2 for the rear cab latch, and 1 each for the front cab mounts.
The stock bushings indeed have a "use by date" as the material deteriorates over time. IDK why they use this stuff - it may be that the military wants them to be...
Fan will always turn even when not "engaged". It will lock in the pneumatic clutch at 200 degrees and it will REALLY turn. You can hear it moving serious air when you rev the engine or drive.
Well the A1P2's with the armored cab switched all the hydraulics over to electric. The AOP wasn't up to the task of the 4500 lb cab. They switched to electric and dual hydraulic rams with dual cab latches. So yeah - it's absolutely possible and likely the best solution if you have the means and...
Correct - compressor and hydraulic pump (power steering) need to be removed. Make sure the Nord-Lock washers are in place on the rear support bracket. Nothing difficult just time consuming and the compressor/pump assembly is rather heavy. I did it without a helper but that was probably stupid...
Cant hurt to have additional capacity both in fluid and cooling......
That said - these trucks were meant for 130 degrees in the Iraqi desert fully loaded pulling their M1082 trailer or gen-set, running their AC full blast with PVT Snuffy buried to the floor mat on the accelerator.
If you...
Nice! Congrats on the lucky purchase.
When going into gear from neutral? Yes the trans will lock in pretty firm. You DO NOT want to be rolling the opposite direction - come to complete stop when switching from reverse to drive. Will snap your head off your shoulders if you don't. If you mean...
Do you have an IR temp gun or a thermal camera?
https://www.amazon.com/FLIR-One-Thermal-Imager-Android/dp/B0728C7KNC
Thermal cameras are pretty dang cheap now. I have a couple of the things for various uses - they are amazing for troubleshooting things like cooling systems, looking at exhaust...
