Those backing bolts should be 5/16-24, be sure to back them off before installing the drums or they will crack the drum. Glad to see you are making progress, my brakes looked about the same. I have extra brake springs if you can't find any.

I have used them mixed, the larger wire can be tough to pull through the connector but with a little silicone grease it will work. The actual two parts that mate are the same size, it's just the hole in the rubber where the wire enters and the hole in the metal where you crimp are different...
