What did you do to your trailer today.

Yeah, the stock “drop-foot” was meant for a bunch of 18-20 year olds to pick it up while another 18-20 year old fiddled with the release lever and dropped the leg while the 18-20 year olds holding it are yelling at him to hurry up! All 101’s need a jack! That was the only drawback of the 101...

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

I have a lot of trouble navigating Pirate 4x4 on my phone. Can’t seem to get to page 1 and the pop-ups are more than annoying. The page keeps reloading and I can’t seem to get to the details. But, what I did see was really cool! Hope you don’t mind a couple questions; What engine are you...

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

I was thinking just black 37030. I like the blue tint it has. It’s subtle, but comes out more in satin than in flat.

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

You might consider using satin finish on that. Since there is no rusted flaking CARC, I think satin would look really sharp! Also, make sure you use the military code for black. It has a subtle blue tint that looks really nice. Just a thought!

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

That’s a really cool project. Looks like you have come a good ways on it. Well done! Will you be posting a build thread? Or any details on the project? You are already coloring outside the lines, so to speak, eliminating brown. You could probably just make up your own pattern now.

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

Oh, I see. That will be interesting to see it! I was assuming you were painting a truck that had had been sprayed with CARC first. No, Behr isn’t CARC. So, you would be better off priming with an aluminum primer, then painting. I don’t see any need to scuff the surface to paint the black on...

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

Read the first post here. That will tell you how to get the paint mixed. It’s Green 383 that you want. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?116608-Paint-Information-(Codes-and-Sources)

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

Is there a reason you are disassembling the truck? I just masked off the mirrors and windows and anything I didn’t want paint on. Do not scuff it up. The CARC is very rough and holds paint well. I’d just wash it with water, to remove dust, let it air dry, then paint the black. No problem with...

Behr Paint Jobs- Show me your MV's

Don’t mask it. Id just freehand it. It dries pretty quickly, but takes a while to cure. Like a week or so. It isn’t as scuff resistant until it’s cured. I would think you would be safe to paint over it in 24 hours. That should be plenty of time. FWIW, it’s rainproof in just a couple hours...

What did you do to your trailer today.

It’s been a while, but I built a new tongue for my 1101. I don’t have a picture of the Pintle in the lowest position, but, you can use your imagination. Welded a 2.5” receiver hitch to the two 3/8” plates that bolted on the existing tongue. I can remove it and reinstall the original hitch if I...

What did you do to your trailer today.

Thats cool. I have a few old cars on my ranch. There is the faint rusted outline of a Model A, a late 50’s early 60’s Lincoln with suicide doors, and three old trucks. Your post gives me ideas. My wife will be so mad!!!! I need to be finishing projects, not starting new ones!

    Electric Winch Install

I have thought of that too. Many ideas swimming around in this head of mine. I am still not pleased with how it’s attached. I am going to weld 1/2” plates to the top of the new bumper that overlap the existing bumper and bolt to the two outer bumper bolts, just outside of where the shackles...

    Electric Winch Install

Here is another view of mine, with the old winch, with the bars removed. I made a fairlead Mount out of 1/2” steel welded to the bumper, as I don’t want the winch body to take all the brunt of the force of the fairlead. My preference, not saying it’s right or wrong or even necessary. With the...

    Electric Winch Install

I bought some mounting kits from Hardhead. They are serious mounts! I didn’t use it on mine, we put them on my friends trucks.

    Air Ride Seat!

Money. It’s for the money I put into the truck. I bypassed the middleman and just feed it $20’s

    Electric Winch Install

A Hydraulic is > 18k electric, which is > no winch at all. So ... I got a Warn 18K severe duty. I also have an 18k regular. Both are 24v. I have the severe duty mounted on the truck now, but had the regular 18k when I was taking pictures. Personally, I don’t mind the look of the extended...

    Air Ride Seat!

Oops. Uploaded the wrong pic, now I can’t figure out how to delete it. Ok, that bottom picture is a set of Corbeau racing seats I bought to replace the stock seat for the drive from Idaho to TX. Totally worth it, though, not quite an air ride seat. I kept them in there for a couple years. That...

    Air Ride Seat!

Best upgrade ever! I put one on both sides. Relocated batteries, and put AC between seats.
