    Picked up my first Deuce!

Very nice truck.! I hope you don't need it for hurricane response. I've always wanted to make a trip to Eglin, but haven't bid high enough yet on the auctions.

    100's of trucks at GL

Getting titles for those trucks could be a hassle. I think you can get a bond title in MS, but I don't think that option is available in LA. It might be worth picking up one as a parts donor, tho.

    Hello from Louisiana

You won't have far to go for the 2nd Annual La SS Rally next year - It's at TIM'S PLACE!! :-D:-D:-D

    Preflight Frankford M35A2

Looks like a nice recent rebuild. You're also missing the headache rack behind the cab.

    My First Deuce - Today!

That is a really nice looking truck. Now that it's home, you need to do your PMCS (Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services - TM 9-2320-209-10-2.pdf).

    Trailer Connections M871

Yeah, prices are all over the place, depending on where you are, how many are selling, and when the sale is. In LA in the same like-new condition, they went from 3600-6000. In CO, they were around 4000, and in TN and CA they went for 1000-1800. The M871 and M872 (3 axle) trailers I've seen...

Is there a certain year to look for when buying?

If you try to title a deuce made in 1982 or later, you may (depending on your state) have to work your way up to the DMV headquarters in your state. Starting in 1982, all US vehicles have 17(I think) digits in the VIN, and the dueces and 5-tons only have 9 digits. The local office DMV...

New! 2009 GA Rally Multimedia Thread

Thanks for the pics, all!! I REALLLLLLLLY wanted to go but had to sell some toys at the New Orleans gun show to pay for my M818 repair . So....when is the date for next year ???!! I want to mark it on my calendar.:-D

Help, threw rod and stuck in Rock Creek WY

Glad you got it home. Hope that was your last big engine expense!

I wonder why they pulled all the m35a2s

The deuces I bought from Camp Shelby all had "Rad OK" on the windshield, meaning that they had been checked for radiation. I don't remember if my two Redstone deuces had that, tho. Maybe some had been sold for scrap and set off the radiation monitors at the scrap yard? Just my contribution...

    Items that don't sell?

I think it depends on the local GL location. I've noticed some items are relisted the same way, some are combined into larger lots, and some are scrapped if they don't sell.

    Recovery disaster - Long

It's moving about as fast as your "Duece-in-the Hole" :-D It ain't going anywhere soon. Wreckerman has the same needs and we're scouring the country for Cummins NHC 250 pistons. It will probably take a few weeks to find a parts engine and tear it down. It would be nice to get Tim's engine...

Help, threw rod and stuck in Rock Creek WY

I feel your pain brother, being left on the side of the road so far from home is not a fun adventure. There is a reason they had so many wreckers in service! Everyone who drives one of these trucks a lot should think and plan ahead about what they would do if/when it...

    Finally a bobbed A3...

While I don't particularlarry care for A3's or bobbed trucks, I wouldn't kick them out of bed either, so to speak. I've come to like loud green (and tan although I don't have any) trucks. They can always be used for parts trucks for my A2's  I have seen Justin's work up close, and...

Avantages of removing fornt drive shaft?

Pull front drive shaft on 5-tons with Sprags? I remembered this old post when a retired motorpool hand told me this week to pull the front drive shaft on my 5-ton. He said they took off the front drive shaft and put them behind the seat for those trucks running mainly on the highway. He said...

That's a nice pair you have there. MV butt is a definite occupational hazard.

    Recovery disaster - Long

Appreciate all the comments, on recovering trucks from GL. I've done it both ways, and it just depends on a lot of things if I'll drive or haul next time. In this case, I already had the M818, had gone through it, changed fluids, gone through the PM procedures, done minor repairs, and had...

    Recovery disaster - Long

UPDATE - Timntrucks provided valuable advice, and offered to sell his engine block. I had the truck towed 10 miles to the mechanic from the truckstop yesterday (another $150 CASH), and he has started his diagnosis. I originally broke down about 1/4 mile from his place . He couldn't find...

    Recovery disaster - Long

Thanks Tim, I knew you would jump in and I may take you up on your offer, but I'm not sure where I want to go with it until I check it out with the mechanic. You wouldn't happen to have a good engine in your parted M818 would you? :-D

    Recovery disaster - Long

That was a consideration, but the driver had another job waiting. At $150/hr, and the low speed we were traveling, I figure it would take about 3-4 hours home, and another 2 for him to return would cost about $800. They demanded cash on the barrel, and I only had $280 with me. For that much...
