Hank,
Just found your thread. Glad you found something for that lazy Tim to do ;-) Looks like a great project!
Congrats on winning your tan trailer from Ft Polk. Let me know when you need the hitch and lights to pick it up.
Thanks Csm D,
I figured it came from some bad attitudes that happened from the recent mega-vehicle sales. I'm just glad no one was hurt or anything damaged. It's been several years since I've bought a truck from there, but I'm starting to look hard again. I didn't know how good I had it...
Just noticed that Camp Shelby will not allow drive-offs anymore as per GL listings. When did that change? Did someone screw things up by taking out the new gate shack?
I've driven 6 trucks off in the past few years (after PMs and with insurance) with no problems. :driver: Now it'll cost...
Clinto,
I'm actually working in Comer, but staying in Athens. If you and Clintogf are around Fri evening, I'd love to stop by. I'd recognize your house, but not the directions from Rt 29, so if you PM me them I can find you.
You and Clintogf do like pizza and beer, right?!
I haven't posted much lately cause I'm working on the road. But I'm heading home this weekend from Athens GA to the Baton Rouge LA area with some pickup truck bed space available if someone needs it.
I'm picking up some tent material from a fellow member with a store in Danielsville GA Friday...
Contrary to the OP, not everyone does it. However, I am finally playing around to get one to dump that is too ragged to take on the highway anyway, just to use around the farm. So far, I don't think the effort is worth it, since all the bolts are frozen and it has no brakes.
Actually, I...
As in many of life's encounters, few things are black / white or good / bad. HOAs, covenents and municipal codes were started for good intentions, but oftentimes get out of hand (just like the unintended consequences of congressional acts). As long as everyone is aware and understands the...
I would drive it to the east side of the mountains, have it towed/hauled to the west side, then drive it home. No matter which route you take over the mountains, it is a lonnnnnggggg, steep drive down the other side. Even more exciting if the air system or brakes aren't at 100%.
Another...
Doggone it, i'll miss it again, but this time by only one day! I fly into Pasco on 9/11 (no hog fat-eating terrorists gonna stop America) and land around midnight. Maybe next year i'll get to see it. Hope you have a good time.
I've had my wife drive my Massey Ferguson tractor to pull-start me in an M818 with a bad starter, but never thought of doing it the other way if my MF dies. Thanks for the idea.[thumbzup]
I was at Ft Polk last week and there were 30-40 HMMWVs in the DRMO yard. The GL folks there said that they were flying out the door to sheriff and police departments. Most were desert tan, some had green doors or other body parts and only a couple were green. None were armored.
I've found that Google is at least 6-7 years behind (even though the copyright is this year), but Bing sat photos are around 1-1.5 years old.

That's all you got? Slacker - you got some shopping to do. :-P Before the terrible boating accident, I don't think that trailer would have held all of my guns and ammo.
That is a really nice trailer, though.
There have been a good number of similar ones out of Camp Shelby MS, but they were a lot more rusted. I have one at full height with a single door that does not collapse. Most of the collapsable ones I've seen looked like they were left extended for a long time.
Oh My!
Our SS family is small but close in spite of the distances, and I really enjoyed Jamie's enthusiasm that poured out of his posts. We'll all miss him, but my heart truely goes out to Cheri and the rest of their family. I can't think of any way to adequately express my feelings of...
It wasn't a problem at Camp Shelby GL yard, but at Hooks TX, you have to check your camera at the gate. Different bases have varying sensitivities about cameras. That said, I would not try to take photos of in-service vehicles at any base.
The magnetic lights never seem to stay on, unless I drop the tailgate and put them on the bed of the trailer. When they're on the bed, the cheap Walmart ones I use never come off.
BTW - those tires look like they have to be shipped from the other side of the globe.
