    FMTV frame steel.... weldability?

Additionally you want to have some kind of flex mount for your camper box, to allow for frame twist underneath. Look for pictures of how the box is mounted on a 1079, and on the older 2.5 and 5 ton trucks. You can easily extend the frame with fish plates and such. If I turn mine into an...

    FMTV Snow and Ice performance?

I've got the Michelin xzl's they are the middle ground between the tire types. Michelin says xml are for sand, mud and loose ground. Xzl's are their all terrain for tactical vehicles and longer lasting. I should find out this winter how they do. In reality when conditions get bad, slowing...

    Alum. Wheel for FMTV / M1078 ?

Valve stem is in the wrong spot, would have to drill and install the ctis valve stem. Hole in the flange is already in the right spot. Would have dual valve stems.

    FMTV Snow and Ice performance?

It's all wheel drive, I'll let mine do what it does. Off road where you can lift a wheel , sand or muddy is where a locker shines. snow and ice, if you need lockers to keep going then you should have put chains on long ago. All comes down to what the end use you are going for is. I'm on the...

Non ULSD and FMTV group of vehicles

The 3116 is pre ulsd. Usld came about in 2006. The 3116 will be happier running older diesel, and you won't have to add additives to lube the injectors. It's what the engine was designed to run on.

    FMTV Snow and Ice performance?

my jeep LJ is awesome in the snow, when i get stuck, i turn on the lockers, when i need to steer, i shut them off. a LMTV weighs 17k, so think of inertia when going down hill. Chains would be a plus. There is also a youtube video of a guy plowing snow with his,if that helps.

How many need a Detroit locker for LMTV ?

The axletechs won't just bolt in without modification. The spring perchs are in the wrong spot. In addition the front steering arm is also different and would require needing one fabricated. Also would require different drive shafts as the mating point on the axle is a different design type...

    M1078 LMTV planetary hub setup

Wow! That is awesome! I would have never thought of that. I attempted to use a piece of precision flat stock bolted across the base to get the depth measurement like in the TM. But that method does not count in gear wear or variances in machining. Your way of actual gear lash is much more...

How many need a Detroit locker for LMTV ?

Steve, I have learned a ton from your post, especially before I even bought a Lmtv and was just a lurker here on the boards. I have high speed center sections sitting on a pallet in my garage that may get put on the delayed list with these mods you have hinted to, no need to rip everything...

    engine swap

Axletech 4000 axles have a true planetary hub. For our trucks you need the wide axles, but they come with a super low ring and pinion. So you also need to buy the narrow axles and swap the center sections to get the higher gear ratio.

    engine swap

It's just money but... sure it's all possible. Gut the engine, trans, drop box, axles. Fab up new engine mounts, new cooling system and hope it all fits under the cab. Drop in the new engine. Trans combo (programmed together, add the axletech transfer case, with its new mounts. Cut...
