Those are the tough ones to find, no company I know of sells them to the public. There were a few tan ones on ebay a short time ago and they sold out pretty quick.
Look in the battery box/fuel tank area that's where they cut them across, also look for rust where the suspension attaches. M151's rust from the inside out, look for a cancer blisters. Post pictures asap.
Driving a M1009 and comparing it to a M1008 is not a fair comparison. The M1009 has 308 gears and much quiter than the M1008 which has 456 gears and is screaming at speed. Looks like a simple matter of the air cleaner top or bottom being tweaked. That much of a gap is not going to cause alot...
Go to the TM forum here and download the manual. It will take you through the steps to troubleshoot. Might be the master switch or a relay bad, best to follow step by step in the TM.

If you want to be kind to the engine 45, 50 it's really starting to scream. Expect 13mpg. A good set of group 31 batteries will run $150-200. Factory GM dashpads are discontinued, not sure on the quality of the aftermarket.
The troop seats really don't leave any axtra holes as they attach with a bracket/pin assy. If it was equipped with a cargo cover then there would be extra holes drilled in the bedrails and tailgate.
There was an original(?) 880 brushguard for sale on ebay a couple months back, it was not the same as a cucv, I think he said it came from a navy or coast guard owned truck. I was bidding on it but the price went high considering the shipping costs.
My 77 882 has the light kit with the switch, from time to time the blackout light kits for the 880 show up on ebay. I have to agree the 880 electrical system is quite fragile. I still love it though, seems to be one of my most used mv's.
I know there are two styles of legs, one uses a pin to secure it the other uses a sring loaded latch. I suspect the spring loaded latch is a later style but they both will bolt on any of the trailers.
