    MEP803a Auxiliary Fuel Operation

Keep your fuel dry! The lip on drums is enough to trap rain and it will get sucked into the drum regardless of how tight you have the bung and vent. They also rust fast. Most diesel has biodiesel in it, this holds water and this makes it cloudy. Check with a flashlight. There are products...

    My resistor can't be bad!?

Interesting. I bought glowplugs for my military generator from DieselRX and they are made by Wellman. 24 volt 7/16" x 20 tpi thread. Not NOS so these must be OEM that are repackaged. It happens. Many OEM units lack manufacturer marks .

Civilian alternator for gen 1 temporary..questions

The brown push on connector is the tach signal for the STE-ICE port diagnostics. The alt for the front battery needs the two pin connector and the ring term for the battery. The two pin connector supplies switched battery voltage and the lead for the malfunction indicator light. The right...

    "Inventing" a "New Multi-Fuel Engine"

Direct injected gasoline engines could be made to run on any fuel that can be pumped and atomized. Probably not waste motor oil but diesel and kerosene.

TH400 to 4L80E Swap for dummies, help needed (crossmembers)

Great info here. Now that I am single again, I have disposable income to do the 4L80E conversion to the 1031. This is a bit more as I need to preserve the PTO for the Lima MAC generator. Which means moving the engine forward 1-9/16" to keep the transfer case in the original position...

    Turbo 400 Question

TH400s are vacuu controlled. Diesel engines don't have vacuum so the DD6.2 uses a vacuum pump and a vacuum regulator on the side of the IP to simulate gas engine vacuum. Check this system if shifting issues are present. Sure sounds like this is the problem.

    My resistor can't be bad!?

This has me thinking of two more "idiot lights". One would be parallel to the ballast resistor and only illuminate with voltage under 10 volts so when a glow plug fails, it will illuminate. The other idiot light is parallel to the glow plug relay so you know when the glow plugs are active. I...

A cheap and easy way to mount a winch to a CUCV

If only they made a 24 volt Badland winch..looks great. I want one that can also mount on the rear shackle bosses. No fear of side loading with this setup as the winch plate is a great shear web so the vending load is converted to pure axial loading on shackle mounts.

Understanding what the hydraulic head, retaining clip is on a deuce...

To elaborate on the button retainer..when the plunger sticks, the cam which actuates the plunger loses contact with the button. Now there is space between the button and the base circle of the cam. The plunger spring can flip the button off the retainer. Remember, the plunger is actuated...

    Generator AUX fuel connections

Anyone have a specs for the hose? Or something affordable which works with the AN fittings? I have all the fittings, the good ones which can be reused.

Understanding what the hydraulic head, retaining clip is on a deuce...

Button retainers fall off because diesel now has a small amount of Biodiesel in it which reacts with water to form a gum. Clean your fuel system from tank to IP of water and gum. Fresh fuel and Diesel Mechanic in a Bottle are your best measures to prevent this problem. These engines need to...

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

No paint needed too! Not that we dread painting, the temps plus a now clean shop just make that a sweaty job.

    LMTV Air Conditioner

Thermal expansion valve drops pressure of liquid refrigerant. It prevents ice formation on the evaporator. Systems using fixed orifice tube have an evaporator low pressure cutout on the compressor plus an accumulator to prevent issues.

    LMTV Air Conditioner

Another great point since the lmtv ac evaporator has the heater core regulated by a coolant flow control instead of a blend door. Valves are prone to leaking especially with the engine thermostat closed.

    LMTV Air Conditioner

The Sanden SD7 series was never made for R12. Yes, Sanden was making R12 compressors back then.. Besides, the oil in the system is for 134. Novices confuse temperature with cooling capacity. And this is air conditioning, not air cooling. You must know the dew point when making temperature...

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Air brake cage bolt hole covers are a very good idea even if you never go off road. Insects like wasps like such holes for nesting. I just had to clean my tire inflation chuck from such infestation. And last time I used it was last week.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Still no luck on the low pressure cutoff switch. Red Dot has online catalogs with pictures but without having the harness in my hands, my CRS disease kicks in. I fear this is an open port on the receiver dryer so it isn't easy to change later. Some factory units have a schraeder valve port...

LMTV Air Conditioner AC Main Unit Gen1 and Gen2 Details

Somewhere here on SS I found engineering drawings of the harness and internal wiring diagram so I can determine the model of Delphi plug to source the correct low pressure switch..I have a week. Thankfully once that part is found, I can cross ref at Rockauto.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

56" belt was a bit too large so we stacked two washers under each pad pillar. Still the idler will go overcenter but once tightened it seems there is adequate tension. Mind you, a Sanden SD15 will pull 8+ horsepower and on a single A section belt, that is too much torque even on a 7" diameter...

LMTV Air Conditioner AC Main Unit Gen1 and Gen2 Details

Yes MKC, the single plug green wire is the comp clutch. The whitebtwo pin plug w black wires is the low pressure cutout switch. The red two pin plug with purple wires is the high pressure fan switch of which I don't know location. How this works? Low pressure prevents operation if...
