While MKC is fetching some grommets for the five new holes in the floor, I'll update the AC install progress ..
The original heater is gone. Easy once floor heat duct is pulled. Air brake valves were buggy mess and should be even worse with AC due to refrigerant hoses. So New units heat duct...
Nice. Looks like there is a problem with the dryer switch type as it is a binary with three pins. This keeps compressor from running if charge is low or temperature to low.
Which means there are two switches in the system. As we have no hose kit yet, I didn't know.
The compressor has...
Thanks OD for the prompt clarification. Yes, green to clutch is std in auto AC market. But the plug with the yellow wire doesn't mate to the switch on the dryer.
Then there is the other plug, also with two wires, which is unknown. Sorry, I'm a bit shelled from the heat as lunch was resampled...
What are the wire colors? Doing the install on MKCs 1078 and the receiver pressure switch don't mate with any of the harness plugs. The pressure switch has three pins and is round. So probably wrong drier. This was part of the compressor kit so it could be wrong.
So you were the source..we got them welded up last week, took less time to weld than prep. I was cutting the weld and base to keep height correct. Hand held cutoff die grinder was too slow, saws all is much better. I still need to dress down the weld, got a little peppery on me with being...
I installed coil overload springs on the 1031 a few weeks ago. They worked but bearing on the flanges of the bump stop bracket was less than ideal. Yesterday, we cut some 3" channel iron to fit, then cut square holes for the bump stop. These press fit into the bump stop bracket and provide a...
Diode on the coil side of a relay protects against switch arcing. When the switch is released, there can be a fat spark as the magnetic field in the coil decays. This back EMF also has a radio frequency component which could cause interference with military radio communication.
Just trying to clarify the complexity of the CUCV starter circuits...not my CUCV but my wife's son's..his Doghead relay accidentally shorted out on the 24 volt supply side and left him dead on the road some 200 miles from home and step dad's expertise. I managed to diagnose it over he phone and...
. To clarify, solenoid moves the drive pinion into mesh with the ring gear. Relays are just switches actuated by another circuit. In the CUCV, the starter relay uses 12 volt side to switch 24 volt into the solenoid, thereby isolating the 12 and 24 volt sides. This is done because the ignition...
And to muddy the waters further, the latest NEC requires the single point ground to be tested with a special meter to insure a ground of 25 ohms or less. In lieu of such testing, a second, 8' ground rod can be installed 6 feet or more way from the first ground rod and connected to the...
Been there but with redesigned sheet metal :(. Not in an FMV but my old drum/drum braked truck. The load sensitive rear brakes on my 1031 CUCV has given me fits due to sagging rear springs, causing the rear axle to have too much brake pressure and locking up. I fixed that with helper coils...
Finally got the 1031 riding level. The spring arching didn't do enough so I found a pair of overload springs from the local auto parts shop that will work with just a little modification. They ride under the bump stop bracket..which I reinforced with a bit of steel so the spring rides on solid...
Timing chain stretch is only a problem when you hear it slapping around at idle. No fun to change. Interesting on the timing mark alignment, the last 6.2 timing chain I did, the timing marks were aligned before removal. The engine was hard to start and made noise. After timing chain...
Very interesting. Started mine up today, it has been cooler here, down to the mid 30s at night. Anyhow, it started up easily and was at operating speed in under 10 seconds. Very little smoke although I did run the preheat for 15 seconds. This got me to thinking it could be a bad glow plug...
Sounds like a perfectly running 002a. They shake because they are twin cylinder four stroke diesels. And it is a big engine with monster pistons. Made to run at 1800 rpm all day long, producing 15 horsepower for 10,000 hours.
