Bad u-joint is the most likely candidate. Haven't driven it enough to 100% there isn't more wrong, because of the cracked block it leaks oil all over the place.
Couldn't you put the pistons in a new block as long as you put new rings on it?
I had a bad vibration, and in one 40 mile trip it vibrated all the bolts out of the water pump, broke the cast aluminum ears off the alternator, broke the starter off, and cracked the blocks. Crazy thing is that I...
I've managed to crack the block on my M1078. Anybody have any good leads on places to find either a replacement engine or block?
I found some engines on eBay, but at $8500 I might as well just buy a second truck! I've also seen some LMTV trucks that auction fairly cheaply because they don't...
A vacuum thermoforming company shouldn't have a hard time making a lexan dome. You could also make a heater large enough to do it yourself too (I had a 4'x4' one, but had to disassemble it).
Thanks, it always seems like when I search I am just a couple words off (e.g. I search for "oil pan lmtv" vs "pan gasket fmtv", so I get different results).
Has anyone replaced the oil pan gasket on an LMTV, with everything in place (e.g. without pulling the engine, axle, etc.)? It looks like there should be enough room, but I'd feel more comfortable getting confirmation before I get it drained and unbolted only to find it can't be done for some...
I have a '97 1078 with the 3116 engine. One of the mounting ears for my alternator is broken, and I'm wondering if it is worth upgrading to one of the 200/400A models? Are they direct swaps (my TMs only list the 100A, with no mention of the 200A and 400A).
Thanks!
Ok, I'll start looking for one. Just out of curiosity, why would you not want the thermal protection? Obviously they upgraded to one without it, but any idea why?
Does anybody know of a civilian part number for a starter that will fit the Cat 3116 in my '97 LMTV? My starter broke, and I need a replacement.
Thanks!
I posted about it in another thread, which was why I didn't here, initially. The engine got some kind of vibration (my theory), and in one 40 mile trip it vibrated all the water pump bolts loose, broke the cast mounting ears off the alternator, broke the starter housing and vibrated out some of...
