    TATRA / Navistar Joint Venture

A quick google search shows that the Tatra, model 815, at least, can already be fitted with Cummins or Caterpillar engines (from factory as I read it)...

818 dead on I70 exit 39(update, problems fixed)

If it isn't scored too badly, it can probably stay in for this emergency... Great support here, have been on the receiving end a few times myself and know how much it is appreciated!

M756 pipeline truck bed. HIAB also military spec from a Navy Loadstar (International). Yes, a great combination. Lots of images on the site.

    Rubber/plastics people

Thanks Jim! Sliced a 1/2 mm section off the tip (didn't come out as well as I had hoped, using sawing motion). Sanded the new surface with 2,000 grit paper, kind of like using an eraser on rough paper. After testing, valve still leaks...probably didn't get the surface perfectly level... Will try...

    Extra fuel

FWIW, made a special "rack" for veggie oil cubies for my cross country trip a while back. It could hold over 50 cubies of biofuels with a potential range of 2,000 miles. In reality, many stops were made for mixing with fresh diesel and so on.

    Move batteries to the bed?

Plenty of MVs have batteries in the "passenger" compartment, M37, M656/XM757, M925, for example. Other models have the batteries moved to the passenger compartment when the winterization kit is installed (M35, M809..) Batteries will emit hydrogen (in excessive amounts) when overcharging, not...

    turn signal problem

Make sure that the flasher unit is grounded via wire "C" from the connector of the unit. The flasher unit is not grounded internally (to the housing). Also, some newer flasher units are not short circuit protected and blow like a fuse when overloaded...keep a spare on hand.

    Extra fuel

Gimp, I would cut an opening in the bed (can always be restored later if need be) for that oval depression. Makes it possible to drain the tank from below also. This would provide continuous support for it, adding straps and padding (fire hose material) as needed. Filled, the tank will weigh...

    Fording Thought

Probably a good idea. The m656 8x8 series designed to swim, have the fan on separate belts, designed to give/stop when subjected to the water. The generator belts will not slip, allowing it to generate power for bilge pumps etc while under water. The water pump is not effected, it runs on the...

5 ton winch chain and hook?

To complete the picture, here is a comparison of the 5 and 10 ton hooks (snatch block). The 5/8 inch chain with grab hook and pear shaped ring along with the 10-ton snatch block are part of the BII for my 5-ton 8x8. The 5-ton chain/hook can be used with the snatch block for a 10-ton pull.

    Mep-018a

My 4A084 has a brass float. Uses much less when running without a load, so the load determines the fuel consumption. There are two noises associated with it, the engine which isn't too bad, and the whine from the generator, which is very loud. If the genset is behind a wall, house or at a...
