On the topic of distribution boxes that are not insanely expensive, check out this 30 amp 120/240 box http://www.smarthome.com/56099/Coleman-Cable-01980-X-Treme-Box-Portable-Temporary-Power-Distribution-Box/p.aspx (it is available cheaper at other locations online, ebay, etc.)
There really are multiple factors at play here and I doubt you will find an all in one solution
In no particular order you have:
Lubrication issues using modern Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel in and older engine
Anti-Gel Issues in the winter time
Corrosion potential for moisture / water in diesel...
Where are you checking for power, have you manually tripped and reset all breakers?
Ike
ps particularly try tripping and resetting the AC push to reset breaker by the front panel outlet
It sounds like you likely have a problem in the reconnection switch, if you have no need for ever running it in 3 phase power mode, you can remove the reconnection switch and wire up the output leads manually in the configuration for 120/240V single phase, just like would be done on any 12 lead...
If I were to pick a top spares list it would be the above mentioned transistors, a spare DC charging regulator, and maybe a spare electric fuel pump. If going beyond that it would probably be a spare AC voltage regulator to drop in.
On the GL dice roll topic, I have bought about half a dozen generators on GL over the last few years, and so far I have been able to get them all to run and produce power without any real major work. Out of these generators only one was a runner (excluding needing new batteries), the others...
Not true at all. Although a 10 kw mep003a might be overkill unless you need to power electric water heaters or central air conditioner. These are rated at 10kw 24/7/365 at up to 120 degrees F not at all like consumer 10kw surge rated standby generators.
To follow up on what Speddmon said, part of the thing about generators is not just that they can kill you, but they can kill (or injure) you in so many different ways, it is not just the electricity, there is also the chance for mechanical injury, burns, CO poisoning, injecting diesel fuel under...
Your going to need a lot more cooling air flow than that. The spec sheet for the Onan DJC(a civilian generator powered by a close cousin of the same engine) specifies a cooling air volume of 800 CFM (cu ft per minute) air flow (this assumed to be correctly vented across cooling surfaces on the...
I have long ago given up asking why people would do stuff to these generators, why would someone install a DC hour meter in place of an AC hour meter, why would someone install a T2 transformer backwards, why would someone leave an empty zip lock bag inside the control box, why would someone...
I would say that is a little more droop than optimal, you can probably tune it a bit better, but it is probably close enough for reasonable operation.

It sounds like yours may still have a bit of life left in it, our old '94 Dodge model 2500 with a 5.9 Cummins farm truck finally gave out around 319,000 a few years back (it had a rough life though, rammed by bulls more than once, had a round bale of hay dropped through the windshield when it...
It is simple enough to rewire these for correct 120/240V operation, as to those people that are telling you to just operate it in 120/208 3 phase and wire up 2 legs. This might work, but I would not try it without confirming the pump motor is 208-230V rated (some are, some are not). I don't...
Should fit no problem, I managed to fit mine in a short bed SuperDuty F250 with a tool box, of course I had only about 1/4 inch to spare for the tailgate to close. The only issue may be loading depending on the skill and equipment of the GL forklift operator. To avoid the bed getting scuffed...
Even if that is the case, it takes a special kind of person to pay double the going ebay buy it now price for known running units to buy an as-is unit from GL.
