    Generator prices

Trailboss I suspect more than 2 in the one I saw that went so high, it seemed sometimes randomly the counter bid would be placed within the first couple of minutes of the 15 minute rule counter, and other times they would almost let the timer run out.

NO Voltage or HZ reading on meters

Jerry, do you know which model solargizer you have? The early ones only provided a high frequency pulse to help break down sulificaiton, and no meaningful charging, the later ones incorporated minimal (5 or 6 watt) solar charging in also. I also suspect that the high frequency pulse may be...

    mep-003a teardown and refurb

The nice thing about group 24's is you can use the factory hold down, you just turn the battery sideways and have to fabricate a couple of spacer blocks (I used wood), as the length of the group 24's is very close to the width of the original 6TL's and they are about half the price. Ike

wet stacking or idling my Mep-003a

To recycle a PM I sent: I bought mine from Newark Electronics (not my favorite electronics parts place, but they had the low price at the time) The original transistor has a JAN or JANX2N3584 , the JAN prefix is just saying that the part is mil-spec certified, in this case a certain...

    mep-003a teardown and refurb

I have a pair of group 24's turned sideways in mine

    Generator prices

Ebay prices don't look all that bad compared to these two today, in fact I saw a MEP-002a sell on ebay not too far from here over the weekend for about $800, and they seem to have buy it now range from about $1,300-$2,600, plus freight, etc. That is a bargain compared to $4,100 + fees Ike

    Generator prices

Well it looks like the insanity is continuing, I just watch 2 skid mounted MEP-002a's sell on GL nearby at Ft Polk, they did not appear to be anything special about 600 hour showing, typical looking, one showed a 6 year old reset plate which sold for $1,850 before fees, to add to the insanity...

using home heating oil in military diesel gensets

I suspect you would be ok on the transfer pump, but may be getting close to its lift limit, so you might just have to try it and see. Also you should not use copper fuel lines with Diesel, as copper can react with the Diesel fuel causing it to thicken, this is particularly a problem when the...

    Need T2 for MEP-003a

Ray, thanks for the offer, but I don't know yet, it was getting dark when I managed to get around to the generator project last night, too many other must do projects came up, like the door knob on the back door of the house breaking, etc. It will probably be Wed or Thurs before I can get back...

New to group and new to me MEP806. Need help

I don't have any other advice, but just wanted to tell you that we would be glad to help if we could, but the simple fact is not that many TQG series generators have made it into the surplus market yet, this is particularly true of the larger units like yours. Ike

    Need T2 for MEP-003a

Just to let any lurkers know, I bought a replacement T2 from Jerry, installed it today and now get good voltage, so on to the more trivial (hopefully) problems, frequency meter, glow plugs, etc. Ike p.s. I can see how someone might make the mistake and install this transformer backwards as...

wet stacking or idling my Mep-003a

There really are no shortcomings to the MEP-002a / MEP-003a design that make them in need of any updating, they do however have a few common issues that are not critical to their operation. 1, Some argue that the voltage regulation system is overly complex, it is certainly esoteric compared to...

wet stacking or idling my Mep-003a

I am just glad you checked here first, all too often we get people here after they have killed the AVR's by idling

wet stacking or idling my Mep-003a

Like Doghead said, never idle these, I personally think the biggest mistake they made in designing these generators is to include a user accessible speed control knob, on first start up set it to about 61.5 -62 Hz no load so it will droop to about 60 Hz fully loaded then never touch the knob...

    MEP-002a Troubles and Diagnostics

This sounds to me like you have a marginal connection somewhere, might be in the relay. It probably shows voltage fine to the meter, when when you start drawing amps through it, then it gets hot, resistance goes up and voltage drops off. This is just a guess, but seems to fit the facts. Ike

    MEP 002/003 Skid Dimensions?

I have never measured them, but would tend to say no they are not the same since the skid is about the same length as the overall unit, I can tell you a MEP-002a will fit cross wise in the bed of my truck and a MEP-003a will not by a couple of inches. Ike

    Need T2 for MEP-003a

It is looking like this is a 4.5:1, 31.1VAC secondary at 140VAC primary according to the specs, so I suspect any common 120VAC to 28VAC transformer of about the same size should work, if I can't find an exact match. Ike

    Need T2 for MEP-003a

The first thing I did was swap boards with the spare one I had bought from you, before running through the flow chart (did not have the manual with me at the generator), so I don't know the condition of the original AVR board yet (voltage was high). I think I will probably set up a test bench...

    Need T2 for MEP-003a

No such luck, the transformer is fried, visible chucks missing and open circuit on both sides. Just for clarity I am talking about the transformer with 4 wires going to it 72-5004, it seems the TM refers to this as T2 in the cabinet and T1 in the test bench circuit. Ike p.s. Jim, do you...
