Yeah running is good, and it looks like the DC charging is working, which I was a bit concerned about since it came with a faded red negative battery cable and a black positive cable (each had about the last 3 inches at the battery end wrapped in opposite colors), for now I have spiral wrapped...
Just got mine going today too, well sort of going, the engine runs anyway. No volts (residual of about .5 VAC is showing up at the outlet), and the engine is running slow, around 1,500 rpms / 50.7 hz control knob does not change anything, and it is smoking a bit. On the good news side it...
One follow up here, mostly for those the are lurking in the future, or are looking at other GL sites. It seems the GL access rules (at least for my local base) are constantly changing. Over the last 5-6 years it seems to change about every six months or so, going through cycles of tightening...
I know the rules were changed for no EUC required for generators mounted on trailers a while back, but I was wondering if / what are the other circumstances where GL trailers are being sold without showing an EUC requirement. I have noticed several lots of trailers sold around here over the...
I have bought a couple of EUC items over the last 5 years, and only get mail at a P.O. Box, I do also include my street address (no mail box here), and did not have a problem.l
Fuel filter is a small standard Yanmar (salt shaker sized) thing inside the the top fuel tank, it can be a pain to replace, when I changed mine (was clogged completely with red sand) I must have dropped the thing and had to fish it out of the bottom of the tank a dozen times before finding a...
Nope nothing formal here, it is fairly simple in principal, turn knob on lever, lock lever in start position, press compression relief, pull rope, or if remote battery is connected flip switch to start.
It looks like we are getting a bit off topic here, this thread was not asking about advice on what type of filter is best to use, but instead what have you found already installed on surplus generators you have bought from GL, GSA, or other military surplus sources.
I don't think this topic has came up before, so I thought I would ask what type of filters (oil, fuel, air) have you found installed on the generators you have bought from GL, GSA auctions etc. For me my MEP-701a came with a WIX oil filter (#5335 I think, also had had written sticker on the...
According to the TM the numbers for the rotating rectifier diodes are S6248 and S6248R (3 of each, the R's are reverse mounted) these are threaded stud diodes, you may have to search the specs and find another similar spec threaded diode with the same size spec from your preferred electronics...
Note my above example was a business with pole top CT remote metering, so no meter base, just wires going straight into the main disconnect switch and the problem was the wires on the hot side of the disconnect switch.
Well I had a few minutes to play with the new to me MEP-003a this evening, changed out the oil filter, old one did not look too bad, oil was a bit black, but at least not chunky. I checked cleaned and reinstalled all 3 fuel pump strainers, only the primary one from the onboard tank was the...
Stupid question, which way does the lever go (toward or away from the engine) on the cold/warm operation lever on the air intake? I could check my MEP-002a, but it is stored 15 miles away and this new MEP-003a has no markings).
thanks Ike
Steelypip: I think you mean Honda EU series being inverters, not EX which I think is one of their traditional generator series. I have a little Honda EU-1000 inverter generator, it is great for many things, 1,000 (well 950 watts) ultra quiet (quieter than a modern small car at idle), and weighs...
To answer the second part of your question, regarding time to switch out breaker boxes, a lot will depend on your local utility, inspector and electricians. If the wiring is good, I would suspect the box change out would take somewhere between 2-5 hours depending of complexity and if wires need...
Dependable that is part of the reason when people ask me which surplus generator they should buy for emergency standby use I tell them the MEP-016D, with the warning that the (fairly primitive) control box likely needs some TLC to get the gauges to work right, etc. Since it uses what amounts to...
Well it looks like I got lucky on the fuel tank too, it just has a few small pinpoints of surface rust, plus some chunky stuff in the bottom along with what I would guess is about a quart of JP-8. The fuel fill strainer was stuck in place and coated with scales of some sort of white powdery...
I picked up the MEP-003a today, overall looks promising (was bought based on blurry GL photos), has a hang tag that says "do not start, no oil , no fuel" dated July 2011 also marked 238th CRG (whoever they were, google search shows one or two references to "CRG's" (none being the 238th) which...
