You should be aware that while breaker interlock kits are allowed nationally by the NEC, they are not code legal in some / many individual jurisdictions. So you might want to ask your local inspector before buying.

Yeah, out of the batch at Polk that just sold there was one with a rusty generator end, likely over heated at some point, another MEP-016D with one side of the control box where the CARC was blistered, as well as 2 or 3 others I would not have touched with a 10 ft pool (one of the MEP-016D's...
On a side note, while looking through GL before bidding of the MEP-003a I ended up winning, I spotted one that is likely going to go to a VERY unhappy new owner. It is a nice looking MEP-002 (probably fresh rebuild), being advertised as a MEP-003a, which is not all that unusual for GL, but what...
Muchies, I know that feeling, on a side note I was reading a TM for something on GL that I am thinking about bidding on a couple of days ago, and saw the requirements for the bench test procedure, it required 2 multi-meters, a Variable AC power supply, and a Variable DC power supply, and my...
I tend to agree if I had to pick one for stationary standby it would be the MEP-002a , if portability is a concern at a little under 300 pounds there is a lot to be said for the 3KW Yanmar powered MEP-016D even if it is a 3600 rpm screamer, I see having a pull starter is a big benefit.
I started looking around last night using google to find advice on buying military surplus generators and was shocked to see so much bad advice and misinformation out there on a variety of message boards ranging from the wacko survivalist boards, gun owner boards, to home owner groups. (this is...
dependable, it seems yesterday was the day for buying MEP-003's so far you make 3 of us that have posted in this thread, sounds like you paid a good price too. I would have somewhat preferred a ASK model here too, but did not feel like paying an extra $400 for it, overall I am somewhat...
Thanks Jim,
As to batteries, I have had poor luck with Wal-Mart batteries the last 10-15 years, when I bought my F250 used in 2008 it had a pair of brand new Wal-Mart house brand yellow top MAX batteries in it, these had a 36 month full warranty, within 24 months 1 was dead and the other was...
I bought mine for much the same reason here, my 5KW the MEP-002a is big enough for most loads, but not the central air. That and now it makes my collection of non trailer mounted diesel powered Mil-Std MEP generators nearly compete, I just need to find a MEP-016E. As of now I have a 3KW...
Well it looks like it is going to be VERY CLOSE on getting it into the back of the truck (short bed F-250 with a tool box) from the inside of the tail gate to the edge of the lid of the tool box I have about 61.5 inches, or about 63 inches to the main side of the tool box. The documents I...
Well it looks like my collection is a step closer to being complete as I just won a decent looking 831 hours showing green and brown MEP-003a from the local GL site for $1050 which was average on today's batch (one low hour unit sold for about the same as mine), which included MEP-016D's...
I don't have a MEP-006a, but do have a commercial Onan powered by a close relative of the same Allis Chalmers engine. Have you bled the diesel injectors to confirm you don't have air in the lines, and have you checked that you are getting return fuel from the return port on the top of the...
No, don't use ether on diesel engines it is prone to destroying them, gas soaked rag is much safer for the engine, but do use caution, wash the gas off your hands before trying to start, stay well back in case the rag ignites, etc.
ETN550 there was a seller a while back that was selling the updated design 24V dc regulator (southern automotive drop in replacement?) on ebay a while back for around $100, I bought one, looks completely different than the one grooved heat sink style, but screws line up.

I was just wondering has anyone ever seen a bad generator end on a MEP-016 series generator? (not counting the voltage regulator which can easily be replaced by a cheap SX-460 clone)
Thanks Ike
While a little off topic, I am rather impressed with the starting ability of my MEP-701a, it will reliably start without pre-heat down to about 28 or 29 degrees, after being cold soaked over night down into the low 20's. It does chug a bit of smoke, but starts within a couple of seconds. I...
Just one thing to add, don't forget the fuel filter screens on screw off bottoms of the fuel pumps. No guesses why the connections were loose, they don't seem to be related.
