No, but checked out a number of tractor (farm) shutters, which were not of the correct dimension. Ended up with my customized plywood sheet, which does a good job. Only removed it a couple of times for heavy hauls...
Haven't decided what to do for the 8x8 multifuel yet. When I replaced the...
Good find BC. I always thought that the deuce should have them the way we run them, way below max load most of the time. Just run downhill and watch the temp drop, I have seen 30-40 degree changes on some long hills. Did look for a set years ago and gave up and installed the "permanent" radiator...
These trucks were probably designed for loaded conditions and compromised some of the riding qualities when empty. My crane truck is never empty with the 4,000 lb crane, so I haven't noticed any of the wheel hop you are talking about.
Again, I like to refer to the m656/xm757 series, where many...
Should be the same other than 3 digits prior to 2000 and 4 digits after. Image below from TM 2610-200-14.
The age thing is something else also, since they stopped making the tires for my 8x8 almost 20 years ago, I researched it a little..... It depends a lot on storage conditions, found this on...
Depends on how you configure your truck.
When the two rear axles are coupled together without a differential, they will strive to keep the truck going straight and cause a lot of scrubbing/cupping of the front tires.
Free up the rear bogie and you will reduce the turning circle by several feet...
Leaf springs have built-in damping as a result of friction between the individual leaves. When spring packs are used with fewer leaves, shocks are added. Never lubricate leaf springs.
My 757 has more flexible spring packs and also uses shocks, both front and rear.
The tire wear depends on where they are used on the truck. The driving tires will wear faster than the front tires and the tires on a single axle drive setup (interaxle drive shaft removed) will wear much faster. I run the 1100 NDCCs at 65 psi on the highway.
My front tires wear at a rate of...
Thanks for posting Dan!
I too use a similar charger/maintainer and have been very satisfied with it, BUT there is one problem with any "open loop" device, there is not complete feedback to tell the charger what is happening on the battery end. Dan's analysis makes sense to me, where the...
This is not the correct way, but it works. The pins are normally pushed out with the extraction tool pushing on the shoulder of the pin. Pulling works in a pinch.
Can someone expand on this, virtually all front tires are singles, so does it have to do with the tread pattern or are super singles not used on the front axle on commercial rigs?
Interesting thread, like to keep it going for a while.....
That is my set-up in the deuce, which also includes a backup alarm.
The xm757 was even easier, shown below. The neutral safety switch is standard, I added the switch for the backup light....
Download a copy of TM 43-0001-31 and get all dimensions. The M819 wrecker/tractor probably has the shortest measurement from 5th wheel to nearest obstruction and can only pull some trailers intended to be loaded by the crane on the tractor, sort of what you have in mind, no doubt.
The xm757 has...
Can we have a little chronology here, how old is this site, I know Kenny is one of the first members (2004) and I wasn't far behind and when was the first Haspin event involving steelsoldiers?
Not to be picky, just curious....
