When I added air tool oil to my A3 steering, I added 15 - 20 ml into the draglink only. The oil will work its way through the system. I also jacked up the front of the truck and proceeded to move the steering wheel to full lock in both directions for 25 - 30 times. This immediately cured...
Knock on wood, I've had my A2 going on three years now and I've never had a problem with the in-tank pump. I also drove a deuce in the Army in the early 70s and never had a problem with the pump. It's been over 40 years since I drove a deuce in the Army, but I don't remember any significant...
Ditto on both. I prefer an oxy-acetylene set with the medium-size bottles, mounted in a cart. The large bottles are a real pain if you have to move them around. Get a good set. I have an old Harris setup. I also have a Hobart MIG welder as well with an argon bottle - again, cart mounted...
I have both an A2 and A3 truck and both have winches. I have to say that I like my A2 winch better, and it gets a lot of use, mostly pulling logs and large rocks. I also don't like the hydraulic tank hanging under the front bumper. The PTO setup on my A2 has been very reliable. I never...
The other problem is that if you could grease the throwout bearing with a zerk, there would be people that pushed in way too much grease that could end up on the clutch. I had an idiot to put a huge amount of chassis grease into my water pump one time and it all ended up in my cooling system.
Allison never recommended motor oil for the 1545 transmission. The Army mandated the use of motor oil to eliminate the need for one more fluid they would need to support in the field. Dexron III is much better than the motor oil. Buy it at NAPA under their brand in 5-gallon pails and it is...
The inner tubes are not expensive. Make sure you get one that will work with bias-ply tires. It is such a pain to replace the inner tube, I always replace mine rather than patch. In many cases deuce inner tubes may be decades old. I always buy a new tube - I never use NOS tubes that may have...
Be careful using the circular saw to cut the beadlocks! Also, make sure you don't cut too much off because you do want some compression to remain. Similar to the story of using the highlift, I have forks on the front of my John Deere 5520 tractor which makes compressing the wheel halves very...
I carry extinguishers in my deuces and generator trailer. I have military 5 Lb Purple K extinguisher mounted that is original OD in color. I would not drive any of my MVs without an extinguisher. I like the GI purple K extinguishers because they are OD in color and one came in one of my deuces.
You can also call the base and ask for a recommendation for a towing company. I did that ahead of time at Ft McCoy and Ft Indiantown Gap when I recovered deuces from both of those bases just to have someone ready to help if needed. In both cases, I had no issues and drove off post without any...
I picked up my M35A2 in August of 2009 at Ft Indiantown Gap, PA. It had old Interstate 6TLs installed in it with a date code of January 2005, although I initially misread the date codes as 2007. Although the truck had been sitting undisturbed for months according to the GL rep, it fired right...
Yes, if it's out all you can do is really blow it out and then flush it. After your rebuilt transmission is back in, I would recommend a drain and flush because Dexron III and TranSynd are not compatible with motor oil and you want to get all of it out.
