    Primary Fuel Filter Trouble

Hmmm...I just loosen the bolt on top and turn the canister from below pulling down slightly to keep the bolt from turning. Like a spin-on and no need to move the geerator/alternator as long as you can get the wrench on the bolt head.

    Engine problems?

Guys, according to 206-20, the M123A1C has the Cummins V8-300. 785 cubes, 300 hp. Let me know if you need any other info. The engine (V8-300) manual is TM 9-2815-213-34. Clutch is Mack model CL-50.

    idle speed setting?

Brandon, I don't know it, of course, but this right out of the -20 manual. BTW. I received the Goer parts manual and will send it to you within a couple of days.

    XM757 Transmission fluid and filter

A sample of oil from the transmission on the right and Ursa 30W OE on the left.

    XM757 Transmission fluid and filter

Agreed, but I also must heed David Doyle's statement about not mixing OE and ATF and I'm not about to rebuild the transmission. If "the right stuff" can mix with some residual engine oil I am all for using it.

    XM757 steering

Jon, good arguments! I know for fact that this kind of seal will not keep moisture out, just dirt from accumulating, maybe ice. I "exrecized" the drag link for less than 5 minutes and it now drops after I release it. It takes over one minute to drop 12 inches, but it is an improvement. I will...

    XM757 steering

Checking the joints for stiffness. The joint at the drag link ends are very hard to move, the one closest to the camera did not move at all. With the mechanical advantage afforded by the length of the drag link itself, the joint at the idler arm end could be moved. When I tried to turn (=steer)...

    XM757 Transmission fluid and filter

Sampled the transmission fluid and it looks and smells like used engine oil. It's almost black, so a change is due along with the filter. Capacity: 5 gallons.

    XM757 steering

For the next several months, everything MV related also becomes weather related, cold rain, freezing rain, snow and cold weather in general will take the fun out of it. First step will be to take one of the joints apart and check the movement of the ball-stud. I don't want to drill the cap...

    STE/ICE-R Question

    XM757 steering

This is what a joint looks like now. The "seal" doesn't appear to be present or perhaps the drawing is conceptual. If the seal is there, high pressure grease could permanently displace it. Robert, I'll test it again with the engine running, got most of the parts for the fuel system now so it...

    XM757 Transmission fluid and filter

When it warms up a bit here, I'll drain some fluid from the transmission to see what's in it now. When I checked the level some time ago it looked like OE on the dip stick.

    XM757 details

Read about the Allison TX200-6 automatic transmission. It has a built-in hydraulic driveline retarder feature. Allison claims that it's more effective (other references) than the Jake brake and noiseless. The linkage is not hooked up on my truck, but it's all there and could apparently be done...

    XM757 steering

Thanks for the come-back. Not sure if grease will get where it would be needed around the ball, though. Perhaps just a lot of exercise is the cure. :-) If it's permanently lubed and sealed, the lubricant should still be there, right?

    XM757 Transmission fluid and filter

Thanks Lance. I'm investigating the transmission fluid spec, the LO calls for "OE"....

    XM757 steering

Not running, just cold turning. Yes, the power stering cylinder would offer resistance, but it's kind of a rubbery toughness, the steering wheel tend to turn back a bit for each movement.

    XM757 steering

The other day I put the front axles on blocks, removed the wheels/tires and started to exercise the steering. Turning the steering wheel was still kind of tough and I'm wondering about the "sealed for life" joints, perhaps a dozed or so in this mechanism. These kind of joints must be used in...

    Oh Boy! New Toy!!

Wayne Harris has one, or at least had one six months ago. It may have belonged to Kenny (Recovry4x4) and Wayne ended up with it in a trade. Wayne is in Southern Georgia.

    XM757 Transmission fluid and filter

The manual specifies a transmission fluid filter, AC PF-133-1 and the fluid as Type C2 MIL-L-2104 for the Allison TX200-6. The best I can do with Google is an AC filter PF1331, but it is not an "element" type it's a spin on, which will not work. For the fluid, I get Dexron III or type C3. Is...

Tracked vehicle South of Sacramento, CA

Jones, when I left your place, you mentioned that there was a tracked vehicle West of the I-5 interstate, perhaps 50-100 miles from you. Well I thought it might be an M548, but it wasn't, it was larger, at least as seen from the freeway. Perhaps it was one of these (image)....
