No turn signals or brake lights - STILL

It would help to know what IS working and in what position your 3-lever switch is in.

No turn signals or brake lights - STILL

This is from a 5-ton truck, but should generally apply to your deuce. You can test the flasher on the work bench by connecting 24vdc to "B", ground "C" and hook a light bulb from "A" to ground. As long as the 24vdc is applied, the bulb should flash about 80 times/minute.

    Paint samples, decisions decisions

Deciding on the right shade of OD is a big thing when the common colors don't match the original. A=Aervoe, G=Gillespie The lower portion of the door has original paint on it as far as I can determine.

airpack rebuild, deep pits in the air can

You need a new Airpak. The large cylinder is what provides the boost, no compromise here.

    Coldweather kit controller

    Here is another picture.

    Coldweather kit controller

Possible, this one is probably only mounted differently. I goes on the top rail of the wind shield. The controller itself is all I'm looking for, the section (box) to the right on the mount.

    Coldweather kit controller

Does anybody know where a person might find one of these controllers? The heater on the 8x8 runs on diesel and requires extra controls...

    Amp meter connections?

Is this the gauge? If so the readout should be what you would measure across the battery terminals with a DVM.

    XM757 Transmission fluid and filter

Called the Detroit Diesel shop/dealer in Roanoke, VA, and they confirmed that the C-2 fluid is not available. Dexron is a good ATF for this transmission. About mixing with the oil that remains after draining, he said that was not a problem, but repeating the drain and fill with fresh fluid would...

    XM757 steering

Eggsactly, you got it, but I have to watch my back, dont want it to go out (again), it's like pushing a shock absorber in and out, a constant resistance. I also don't know how loose these joints should be by design. A four-wheel front end alignment is next. The right front tire is worn pretty...

    XM757 steering

According to the SAE paper, the purpose of the seals was to keep dirt away from the rod ends. They probably, like Jon suggests above, did more harm than good by trapping moisture. I'll be leaving them out.

    XM757 Transmission fluid and filter

I communicate with Frank in OK off and on, he sold one 8x8 to Tom Bauer a few years ago and still has one XM757, which he drives in parades etc. Anyway, he say his retarder is hooked up. He should be providing details about it. Frank also found his steering linkages (=sealed ball joints) stiff...

    XM757 Transmission fluid and filter

I'm taking notes, Jon. It's a big beautiful transmission and I want the retarder to work too.

    XM757 steering

Slowly but surely, moving those linkages is beginning to feel like work, gotta watch my back, don't want it to snap out. When they get a bit easier to move, I'll use the power steering, if the steering wheel alone won't handle it. Kenny, as far as you driving/riding in it, you bet! You know a...

    XM757 steering

Exercised the drag link some more (image above) and it now drops in about 20 seconds. If they all loosen up like that, I should be in good shape. :-)

    Primary Fuel Filter Trouble

You also have a choice of elements using the original set-up. The Purplator 053754-01 on the left is cleanable and can be used over and over, good if you are on the road. The NAPA 3511 is basically a thow-away type and much cheaper.

    XM757 Transmission fluid and filter

To get a better picture/comparison of the oils, I used the scanner. The used oil is on the right.

    Aervoe military paint...Any comments?

Got a can of Aervoe "Earth Yellow" a few years ago when I couldn't get that particular color from Gillespie, brought it to a Sherwin Williams store and had them make a gallon of that same color in an oil base semi gloss. That's what I used and it has held up very well. A part of my front...

    Tire chains

Expect to pay at least $100/axle and shipping can be a killer. I like chains, they provide unbeleivable traction off-road and in snow regardless of tire tread. No need to air down either. Rough on hard pavement, though. Here is some info...
