Its been 2 years since my deuce engine took a powder. Anybody looking for a follow up on this thread can read my other thread about my engine rebuild here:

I have heard you say you would love to hear a deuce with a Detroit! haha!
My concern with going with more power is the transmission not being able to handle it. an 4-71 N/A is about 160 horse. That would work good in my truck with plenty of power.
My concern is the oil pan on a 4-71. Would it...
Pacbrake had one that looked like it would have fit our application because it had a 45 degree bend in the brake mechanism. I think it fit a 5.9 cummins.
I had the same issue and this is what fixed it. Also make sure you have the correct o-ring in there to seal the shut off shaft. some reason the best one I could get to fit was the OEM military one. Anyway, of those two screws are too tight it will make it hunt.
Honestly, I think its my deuce...
But Jake Brakes..... oh the sweet sound of Jake Brakes! haha! I don't live far from Detroit so it is almost fitting I re-power it with a Detroit.
I do agree a 6BT would be a great engine. More power and higher revving. There was never a Jake Brake for a 5.9, correct?
I know this is an old thread but I thought this would be a good place to put it...
I rebuilt the engine in my deuce and I still have blowby issues. I hate that it didn't turn out good and It does not make me happy at all. I am toying around with the idea of putting a 4-71 Detroit in my truck if...
I am not sure if they are a similar, but here was my finding with an M818 that had a problem like that:
Make sure your steering linkages are all tight. I mean the slave cylinder on the right side and the steering box on the drivers side. If the ball and socket is loose, it can cause it to...
I'll look into more about the piston rings. As far as I know, they only had one flavor of piston rings. I just ordered the tractor service manual so we will see if that has any additional information in it. I believe the tractor pistons were different from the multifuel pistons. As far as piston...
Thanks Bud. I think I posted this before, but here is the "Long Break-in" procedure for an LDT that has had new bearings (does not apply to me), new pistons (does not apply to me), Pistons rings (applies to me) and new sleeves (does not apply but my sleeves will be honed with a 240 grit ball...
I probably need to collect some data and see what my engine is actually doing. Do a compression and leakdown test to get those numbers. I might be able to use a friends dyno but he is very busy and not sure when I could get on that. In the military rebuild manual, they dyno every engine after...
Glad I could help with your MV addiction. Ask me for any advice you need... except rebuilding the engine. 3 times in a row I have gotten blow-by after a rebuild. I give up!
I thought I didn't a decent job at putting it under a load. I tried to put it under a load the best I could. Ill have to do a leak-down test someday and see where my numbers are after this 3rd overhaul. I'm about ready to throw in the towel and put a 4-71 under the hood. But if i rebuilt one of...
I'd LOVE a 916 and trailer to match. Zero use for it but it would be lots of fun! That or a Dodge Hellcat. 916 and trailer would be cheaper, but the Hellcat would have the "magnet" inside. :)
The finer you filter the better. DO NOT get filter housings with bypass valves. My experience is they will still leak a very little bit and you will go through filters on your truck eventually. It is my recommendation you you air pressure to push the oil through filters. It has worked well for...
But Mark now has the same issues with with his piston kits.... the truck lacks power and is hard to start. He is using 100% diesel.
As far as me using some WMO in my fuel, the first first rebuild I had about 50% diesel and 50% WMO... and it ran good for a while until it started not to and...
