i have a 1953 wrecker with a multi fuel. do i have to fill the tranny with fluid, or does the tranny get its fluid from the large hydraulic tank that the boom uses. i did a search and i couldnt find this in a prior forum. also is there a simple way to search for a tm that would be...
m543a2 you called it, my starter wasnt working because i took off the ground to get to the injector on the # 6 cylinder. the truck started up almost immediately after we filled it up with fluids. it sounds better than when i bought it. thanks for you help.

thank you joe for the excellent explanation. area 51, do you know the number of the tm, i would like to look at a tm that goes into detail of all of the crane and winch controls and operation. when i was putting the heads back on i noticed there is a separate electrical connector attached to...
i got the wrecker running again. the advice from ss was right. my starter not working was a simple ground. everything is running good, but i can not figure out how to get the boom to work. i start the engine, put the parking brake on, but i am having a hard time getting the handle on the...
marti, thank you for the help. i tell all my friends how great it is that all of the ss members are willing and happy to help each other.
yes, the starter worked prior to the removal of the heads. it is a blessing though that it isnt working right now, because if it was there is a good...
i love insurance companies. ask ten people a question and you will get ten different answers. i made it very clear to usaa what i was insuring. i told them the weight and number of axels and they had no problem with it. i will double check my policy. i had a similar problem with them and my...
i would assume there is a large majority of people on here that are prior military. i use usaa for all my insurance, including my five ton. they said i have no restrictions, i pay under 200 a year in california. have others looking into usaa.

as always thank you for the good advice. i never even thought of using the fan to turn over that huge motor. the temp gauge wasnt working, but i dont know if it was the sender, the gauge or the wiring. i figured i would start with the sender unit. i wont be using the starter, thank goodness...
i am still in the process of changing the head gaskets. i have three questions. is there an obvious reason that i cannt get the starter to turn the engine over with the heads off. also, how easy is it to get a head gasket to fail by lugging the engine. i am wondering if it was my fault...
gimpyrob, thank you for all your answers and the time to help do a search for me. i appreciate it. it is funny how we get all excited about the little stuff. look around, there are a lot better things to be angry and upset about. a joke and a bump isnt one of them.

i am getting ready to buy the gaskets and put my multi fuel back together again. i was look at gl and they have multi fuel engines, look new or rebuilt, at tracy. that is less than two hours from me. how do you know if it is a multifuel for a duece or five ton. what is the difference...
i understand hydraulic brakes, i understand air brakes, but i dont get air over hydraulic. why didnt the manufacturers just go with air brakes, it seems like there are two systems when one would work. also does the air pressure release the brakes like a air system, or does air pressure apply...
someone asked what i wanted to tow this with. i can rent a large class b truck locally, so if i had a tow bar i could have rented the truck and saved some serious money. i think i could have already purchased the bar with my first tow bill.

i got the heads off, but one bolt went in to the chamber where the rods go through and i think i can get it with a magnet. if it ends up going down by the crank how would you get the bolt out? i am ordering the complete gasket set, tool to remove and torque the driver side head bolts, and i...
the truck was used commercially as of 1999, so that was done by them. i am thinking of removing it and going with the original system. it is really fast and easy, it would make it easy to use and travel with only one person. i will grab a picture sometime this week of the support.
